Boycott
The local Labour Law Practitioners Association on Friday decided to continue the boycott of Mr M.S. Lubhana, Sessions Judge, at present the presiding officer of the Industrial Tribunal, for his alleged remarks against the workers. It demanded the transfer of the judge and decided to hold a protest rally on September 22.

The following have been elected office-bearers of Northern India Cotton Association Limited: president — Mr Satish Ahuja; vice-president — Mr Ashok Kapur; and treasurer — Mr Jagdish Mantari.

FARIDKOT

Government departments
The Punjab Government will open various government departments, including RTA, Deputy Director, Local Bodies, Food and Supply and Labour Court, in Faridkot division. This assurance was given by the Chief Minister of Punjab to a deputation of local lawyers who met him on Friday.
Strike

Over 200 teachers of the local Dasmesh Public School and its allied branches at Kot Kapura and Bargari carried banners and took out a protest against the adamant attitude of the management of the local Bhai Pheru Sikh Educational Society. The management has closed the institution till September 25.

FEROZEPORE

Sales tax
The Excise and Taxation Commissioner, Punjab, Mr Sudhir Mittal, has stressed that all suitable steps will be taken to check the evasion of sales tax and warned that the tax evaders will not be spared. He was addressing a meeting of the officers of the Excise and Taxation Departments of Faridkot and Ferozepore divisions here on Friday.

The following have been elected office-bearers to the Punjab PWD Mulazam Union: chairman — Mr Gurdev Singh; president — Mr Tarsem Singh Bhagtana; senior vice-president — Mr Surjit Singh Kaler; vice-presidents — Mr Fauja Singh, Mr Akal Chand and Mr Nanak Chand; general secretary — Mr Savinderpal Singh Renu; and treasurer — Mr Chuhar Ram.

HOSHIARPUR

Old-age home
The construction of a "varidh ashram" (old-age home) will start on September 21 on the Gaushala premises here. The Deputy Commissioner will perform the "bhoomi pooja" ceremony.
Rally
The Deputy Commissioner, Mr Iqbal Singh Sidhu, flagged off a blood donation chetna rally organised by the Bhai Ghaniayaji Mission here on Saturday. More than 1,000 students of various local schools and representatives of social organisations participated.

An open darbar was organised at Behbal Manj village in Mukerian subdivision of the district on Friday. The Deputy Commissioner, Mr Iqbal Singh Sidhu, presided over the darbar.

Refresher course
The Central Institute of Languages, Mysore, has started a 21-day refresher course for Punjabi lecturers here. The course is being held at local DAV College.

KAPURTHALA

7851st coach
The Rail Coach Factory (RCF) on Saturday rolled out its 7851st coach on its annual production day. The General Manager, Mr V.P. Ohja, said the RCF would manufacture 1,075 coaches in this financial year, thus surpassing the planned capacity to manufacture 1,000 coaches annually.

Killed
One labourer was killed on the spot and three others were injured, two of them seriously, when the tractor on which they were travelling overturned near Sandhuawan village, according to reports received here on Friday.

Conference
The 30th "shaheedi conference" was held at the Railway Yard by the All-Government Employees Trade Union Council on Saturday. Homage was paid to Comrades Dev Raj, Gurdip Singh, Raj Bahadur, Gama and Laxman Shah.

Mr Vijay Kumar Goyal, president of the Lions Club (Patiala Fort ) has been nominated as honorary vice-president of the local Red Cross Society. He has also been nominated to the executive committee of the Red Cross Society.
