Elected: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Bank of India Officers Association (N.W. Unit): President — Mr M L Dogra; Vice-President — Mr Ashok Sharma; General Secretary — Mr Raj Kumar Arora; Joint General Secretary — Mr Harpal Singh Mangat; and Treasurer — Mr V.K. Sharma.

BATALA

Arrested: The police has arrested Ashok Kumar, a cloth merchant of Qadian, and recovered two Maruti cars and six two-wheelers from him.

JALANDHAR

Kanungo arrested: The Vigilance Bureau has arrested Madan Gopal, a kanungo-revenue of Nakodar tehsil, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 2,700 from Jarnail Singh, a resident of Bajuya Khurd village, for demarking his land. A case has been registered against him.
Flayed: The Private Colleges Non-Teaching Employees Union staged a demonstration at Doaba College here on Thursday. Mr R.P. Sharma, President of the union criticised the Punjab Government for not releasing the Pay Commission's report.

KAPURTHALA

Ban: Mrs Usha R. Sharma, District Magistrate, on Friday ordered that all liquor shops in this district adjoining Adampur assembly constituency will remain close from November 23 to 29. She also banned the serving of liquor in hotels, clubs and other commercial establishments in the area.
Suspension revoked: Mr J.S. Thind, Executive Officer of the local Municipal Council, who was placed under suspension by the Local Bodies Minister, Mr Balramji Dass Tandon, on a charge of dereliction in duty a few days back has been reinstated by the state government. He resumed his duties here on Wednesday.
Saved: Amir Chand (30), a painter of Jatpura mohalla, who allegedly attempted to commit suicide by hanging himself at his residence on Wednesday was saved by the timely medical aid given by doctors of the local Civil Hospital. The police has registered a case.

MOGA

Protest: Villagers of Bargari village staged a demonstration and blocked traffic at Baghapurana on Wednesday in protest against the failure of the police to register a case against the in-laws of Kinder Kaur, belonging to Bargari village and married to a person of Baghapurana. She had died few days back at her in-laws residence.top

The workshop is being organised by the Helpage India, on socio-psychological, nutrition and health problems of the elderly persons.

BHIWANI

Demonstration: Patwaris of the local Irrigation Department staged a demonstration in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office. Addressing the demonstrators the State President of the Sarv Karamchari Sangh, Mr Sher Singh, criticised the State Government for its allegedly callous attitude towards them.
Two arrested: The police claims to have arrested two of the three alleged kidnappers of Panna Lal, a crusher-owner of Tosham. He was kidnapped on October 26 while returning to his home from the crusher.

GURGAON

Medical association: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Indian Medical Association, Haryana: President — Dr Subhash Khanna (Gurgaon); and Vice-Presidents — Dr D.S. Jaopal (Ambala cantt) and Dr Rohtash Yadav (Rohtak).

HISAR

Accidental shot: A retired CBI Inspector, Mahabir Sharma, was killed when his revolver went off accidentally at Model Town in Hansi on Wednesday.
Charge taken: Mr Ramesh Verma took over charge as the SDM of Hansi on Thursday.
Two killed: Naresh Kumar and Nirmala Devi were killed on the spot and three others injured when a Maruti car in which they were travelling collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction near Hansi, on the Hisar-Delhi national highway on Wednesday.

SHAHABAD

SIRSA

Dharna: Members of the Haryana Canal Patwar Sanghthan, Sirsa district, held a dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner's residence here on Thursday in support of their demands. Mr Jaswant Singh, district president of the sanghthan, criticised the state government for adopting indifferent attitude towards their long standing demands.
Ban: Dr Avtar Singh, District Magistrate, in an order issued under Section 144 of the Cr PC, has banned carrying of weapons and fire arms in the district till November 30 in view of forthcoming assembly elections of Rajasthan.

SONEPAT

Killed: Lakhu, a youth, was knocked down and killed by a Canter near the Railway bridge here on Wednesday. The police has registered a case against the canter driver.
Procession: To create awareness about dental diseases and their cure, the district unit of the Dental Health Welfare Society organised a procession here on Friday. The procession was flagged off by Dr R.N. Sachdeva, Civil Surgeon. More than 2,000 students participated in the procession.
Case registered: Raj Kumar, alias Raju, a driver, was crushed to death by a truck at Gohana on Thursday. The police has registered a case.

YAMUNANAGAR

Ban: The District Magistrate, in an order issued under Section 144 CrPC, has banned processions, assembly of four or more persons and carrying of weapons in the district on November 28 and 29 in view of the written examination of revenue patwaris.
Blood donation camp: Seth Jai Parkash Mukand Lal Institute of Engineering and Technology, Radaur, organised a blood donation camp on the college premises on Thursday. Mr Ashok Kumar, Chairman of the managing committee, was the chief guest. As many as 195 students and members of the staff donated blood.

BILASPUR

Inaugurated: The Deputy Commissioner, Mr Ramesh Kapil, inaugurated the office of the Industrial Development agency at Government Industrial Area on Wednesday. He said the office would collect electricity and water bills. He said the government mobile eye unit would hold an eye treatment and operation camp at Barmana from November 26 to 30. Another camp in progress at Bharadi would continue till November 23.

CHAMBA

Fire: Three wooden shops were gutted and two were partially damaged in a fire that broke out in the local market on Thursday. Mr M.L. Sharma, Sub Divisional Magistrate, has announced a relief of Rs 5,000 for the fire-hit.

KANGRA
