Laloo bail plea decision on Nov 27
NEW DELHI, Nov 20 (PTI) — The Supreme Court today fixed November 27 to decide bail pleas of former Bihar Chief Ministers Laloo Prasad Yadav, Jagannath Mishra and three others, at present in judicial custody for their alleged role in the Rs 950 crore fodder scam conspiracy cases. A three-Judge Bench comprising Mr Justice M.K. Mukherjee, Mr Justice S.P. Bharucha and Mr Justice K.T. Thomas fixed the date after Additional Solicitor-General C.S. Vaidyanathan, appearing for the CBI, sought time till Tuesday to file counter-affidavits against each petition.

Team for Pak
NEW DELHI, Nov 20 (PTI) — Sale of power from Pakistan to India will come up for discussion when experts from the two countries meet in Islamabad from November 24 to 27, it was officially announced here today. Another team of experts from India would visit Pakistan from December 1 to 4 to hold parleys for finalising an agreement as also commercial and operational details for the direct bus service from Delhi to Lahore and Lahore to Delhi, an External Affairs Ministry release said.

Infants’ cremation
NEW DELHI, Nov 20 (PTI) — The Delhi High Court today asked the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to issue direction to all crematoriums in the Capital to permit cremation of bodies of infants if brought there. A Division Bench comprising Mr Justice Anil Dev Singh and Mr Justice Mukul Mudgal asked the MCD authorities to put up notice boards in all crematoriums in the city to make people aware of such a permission.

Channel V
NEW DELHI, Nov 20 (PTI) — The Delhi High Court today issued notices to the Centre, Sports Authority of India (SAI) and music Channel V to show cause on alleged misuse of Nehru Stadium for commercial purposes casting a shadow over the 1988 Channel V music awards presentation function here tomorrow. A Division Bench comprising Mr Justice Anil Dev Singh and Mr Justice Mukul Mudgal while issuing notices to the Centre, SAI and Channel V on a public interest litigation (PIL), fixed a special hearing on the matter at 10 am tomorrow despite it being a holiday.

Naxals nabbed
PATNA, Nov 20 (UNI) — In a swift operation in the naxalite-affected Jehanabad district, the police arrested 27 activists, including three "deputy area commanders," during the anti-naxalite drive yesterday. Babudas, ‘deputy commandant’ of the Harahar area belonging to the banned Peoples’ War Group was nabbed in Amein village. Thirteen other activists were rounded up in Pandui village in the district.

Rafi’s son dies
LONDON, Nov 20 (PTI) — Legendary singer Mohammad Rafi’s son Saeed Rafi has succumbed to extensive burns he received in a car accident in Middlesex. Car of Saeed Rafi, the middle son of Mohammed Rafi, caught fire in mysterious circumstances in Hounslow in Middlesex, just outside London last weekend and he was trapped in the blazing vehicle, according to reports here. An off duty nurse passing by alerted the police, which extricated him with great difficulty and rushed him to hospital with 75 per cent burns. He succumbed to his injuries last night.

Permission to Rao
NEW DELHI, Nov 20 (PTI) — A Delhi court today granted permission to ailing former Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao, facing trial in the JMM MPs bribery case and Lakhu Bhai Pathak cheating case, to go abroad for treatment. Special Judge V.B. Gupta, allowing Rao’s plea for going to Boston in the USA for treatment, directed him to furnish a bond of Rs 50,000 and a surety of a like amount. Mr Gupta further asked him not to contact any witness and desist from tampering with evidence and deposit the passport back to the CBI on his return by January 31, 1999.

Indo-Nepal treaty
NEW DELHI, Nov 20 (PTI) — India and Nepal today agreed to renew the Indo-Nepal treaty for transit and other trade related matters and simplify and liberalise the procedures involved. The renewed treaty will contain more simplified and liberalised procedures for the transit of Nepalese import and export cargoes as compared to the treaty of transit of 1991, an official release said.
