JAMMU, Nov 6 — Senior Air Force officials including an Air Vice-Marshal today examined the two pilotless flying machines, which had been recovered from the forest belt of Kalakot in Rajouri district on Wednesday, and were of the opinion that smuggling of such weapons from across the border had "serious ramifications" on the ongoing proxy war in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Air Force authorities found that the Japanese make engines of the two flying machines were more powerful than one had imagined. It had also a powerful starter. Since the flying machines had no inbuilt mechanism for landing it was evident that the militants had been directed to use them for hitting the target to destroy and get destroyed. Each machine had a cavity, which could carry high-grade explosives between three kg and five kg and once the flying machines could hit the target with a three kg RDX they could cause largescale devastation. If the target was a VIP convoy there was then no scope for survival.

Police authorities, who earlier had dismissed the reports as mere kiteflying that some people had seen some small planes moving in the skies in Udhampur and around the Jammu airport, had now been thinking afresh on the matter. They believe that there was now the possibility that agencies across the border had conducted trials of sending the mini-aircraft without hitting the target.

Police sources said that the Director-General Police, Mr Gurbachan Jagat, has already communicated to the Chief Minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah, and the central agencies looking after the security of VIPs that there was urgent need for sending more "jammers" to Jammu and Kashmir for ensuring foolproof security to the VIPs. At present the state has a limited number of "jammers" out of which two have been kept with the Chief Minister another with Raj Bhavan and senior VIPs in the state are yet to get this facility.

Police experts say that the "jammer" has been found suitable for "blocking" mine explosion, IED or RDX blasts and the same could be used freezing the mini flying machines' striking capacity.

Top IB experts and those connected with the security of VVIPs in the country today reached Jammu from Delhi to examine the two mini flying machines and discuss security requirement in the light of reports that Pakistan had sent several other such machines and other highly sophisticated weapons to Jammu and Kashmir.

The high-level central team had detailed discussion with the police Chief, Mr Gurbachan Jagat, and other highups of different security agencies and the team members are said to have expressed concern over the induction of high grade weaponry into the state from across the border. Mr Gurbachan Jagat is said to have explained to the team members the steps he had taken to prevent militants from using these hi-tech weapons against the security forces and the VIPs.

Mr Jagat has already directed police force in Rajouri and Udhampur to carry on search operations for seizing more such weapons. Senior Police and CID officers have been associated with the ongoing search operations not only in Rajouri district but in other adjoining areas.

Since the miniflying machines had been smuggled in parts into the state of Jammu and Kashmir, the BSF and Army have been directed to launch search operations in the border villages, and seize even toys, hollow pipes and other objects with mysterious shapes so that experts could decipher whether these were parts of some high grade weapons or not.

The police Chief is said to have directed his men to seek cooperation from people and the operation "Khoj" should be carried out in systematic manner. No village and forest belt should be left uncovered.

Meanwhile, a blueprint is being prepared for the movement of the VIPs in the state. Both state and the central experts are said to favour that those under ‘Z’ category of security be asked to restrict their movement till militancy-infested areas were cleared of insurgents.Top
