Congress committee
Mr Jasbir Singh Dimpa, president of the Punjab Youth Congress, has appointed Mr Sanjeev Sharma as president of the Youth Congress Committee, Batala.

Scooters recovered
The local police raided the shop of a motor mechanic, Vaishnoo Dass, at Dera Baba Nanak road and recovered six stolen scooters and one tractor from there.

The president of the District Congress Committee has appointed Mr Madanlal Gandhi as secretary of the District Congress Committee.

Mr Mahinder Singh Kaypee, a former Congress minister, took over as president of the District Congress Committee (Urban) here on Friday.

PATIALA

Arrested
The police on Friday claimed to have busted a gang of thieves allegedly responsible for thefts of vehicles. The SSP, Mr Parampal Singh Sidhu, said three members of the gang, Sukhwinder Singh from Sirhind, Surjit Singh from Fatehgarh Sahib and Karam Singh from Patiala, had been arrested while another member, Manu Gautam, was absconding. The police had seized five scooters and one motor cycle from them.

Dr Jagbir Singh, a senior Lecturer in the Zoology Department of Punjabi University, Patiala, has been invited by the International Institute of Entomology, London, to participate in an advance entomology course in biosystematics and biodiversity.
Lok adalat
The Legal Services Authority will hold a Lok Adalat here on August 22. Mr Justice H.S. Brar of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, who is also the Executive Chairman, Legal Services Authority, will inaugurate the adalat.

Cultural programme
In connection with the golden jubilee celebrations of India's Independence an inter-state cultural programme was jointly organised by the Punjab Public Relations Department and the North Zone Cultural Centre at Ambedkar Bhavan here on Thursday evening. The Deputy Commissioner, Mr K.S. Sidhu, presided over the function in which artistes from Gujarat, Rajasthan, UP, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Tamil Nadu participated.

Case registered
On the recommendation of the National Human Rights Commission, the police has registered a case against Madan Lal Verma, Rajendra Verma and Surendra Kumar. The complainant, Ms Poonam Rani, has alleged that the suspects entered her house forcibly and threatened to kill her.
Booked

Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Taraori in Karnal district, has been booked under Sections 448, 500 and 506 of the IPC for threatening Assistant Commissioner of Income Tax Mrs Rekha Shukla.
Rescued

Six persons, who got marooned in Roon, a seasonal river, at Mianpur village in Naraingarh subdivision were rescued on Saturday. The incident took place after there was sudden gush of water from the hills in the river.

Murder case
The Pataudi police has registered a case of murder against Naresh, Dinesh and Daya Ram for the murder of Khushi Ram, whose body was found at a tube-well on Tuesday. A case has been registered on the complaint of his nephew, Mr Raj Kumar Saini.

Deputation allowance
The executive committee of the Haryana PWD Technical Employees Association at a meeting here on Friday alleged that the Haryana Government had not given the deputation allowance to municipal employees working with the Public Health Department on deputation since 1993. These employees had also not got the revised pay scales recommended by the Fifth Pay Commission.
