NEW DELHI, Aug 15 — The President, Mr K. R. Narayanan, today voiced concern about departure from order and decorum in parliamentary behaviour and power play and corruption in public life witnessed in recent times.

NEW DELHI, Aug 15 — Sans fanfare, the Congress campaign was launched on Independence Day. Yesterday, Mrs Sonia Gandhi had released the party’s new mouthpiece, "Congress Sandesh". Today, leading national dailies had a half-page advertisement inserted by the Indian National Congress.
Opposition flays shuffle of bureaucrats
NEW DELHI, Aug 15 — The major bureaucratic reshuffle undertaken by the Vajpayee government came under attack today even as the Defence Minister maintained the moves were not linked to the threat of the AIADMK to review support to the ruling coalition at the Centre.

NEW DELHI, Aug 15 — Defence Minister George Fernandes today categorically said the major secretary-level reshuffle last night was in no way linked to AIADMK supremo Jayalalitha’s threat to review support to the government on the Cauvery issue.

WAGAH (Indo-Pak border), Aug 15 — The "candlelight vigil" to promote Indo-Pakistani friendship at Zero Point here at midnight last organised by Mr Kuldip Nayar, eminent columnist and member of the Rajya Sabha, and his associates, including film actor-turned politician Raj Babbar and Gulzar, director of Hindi movies turned out to be a one-sided affair.
