Youth hostels
The Punjab Government plans to set up youth hostels in every district headquarters and youth welfare clubs in every village of the state. This was stated by Mr Gobind Singh Kanjhla, Minister of State for Youth Welfare Services, on Saturday at the annual prize distribution function of S.N. Arya High School, Tapa.

Anniversary
Rural Development and Panchayat Minister Nirmal Singh Kahlon, while presiding over a function to mark the anniversary of the Quit India Movement at cantonment here on Sunday, appealed to people to follow the path shown by martyrs. He exhorted the people to work for the unity and integrity of the country.

Grant
Raja Narinder Singh, Minister for Public Health, Punjab, announced Rs 30,000 for the Mahila Mandal at Akalgarh village on Sunday on the anniversary of Sant Harnam Singh. He also said the state government was giving special incentives for the education of girls.

Anniversary
A function was organised here at the Doaba Club on Sunday to mark the 56th anniversary of the Quit India Movement. Freedom fighters of the district were honoured on the occasion.

The Punjab College Librarians Association will take part in the agitation to be launched by various teacher associations on August 11, said Mr Satnam Singh Ahluwalia, president of the association.

Injured
Four activists of the Punjabi Bhalai Manch were injured in a road accident on the GT Road near Khajurla on Sunday. They were on their way to Jalandhar.
Revamp

The Punjabi Bhalai Manch will be revamped at the national and provincial levels by September 15. This was stated by Mr Balwant Singh Ramoowalia, president of the manch, at a rally here on Sunday.

Resentment prevails among local residents over frequent power cuts. Due to this the water supply also gets disrupted, the residents allege.top

Payal Musical Club will organise Vande Matram — a musical programme based on patriotic songs on August 15 at Lakma Hall, 3 B.R.D., Sector 31, a press note issued here said on Monday
.Bomb scare
A bomb hoax was reported in Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 35, police sources said here on Monday. The police received a telephone call around 1 p.m. following which the children were asked to vacate the premises. A bomb detection squad was pressed into action but no explosives were discovered.
Blood donation
As many as 450 students donated blood at a blood donation camp organised at Government College for Girls, Sector 11, here on Monday. A congress grass eradication programme was also inaugurated by the Principal, Mrs Vijay Lakshmi.
Janamastmi
The local Sanatan Dharam Kendriya Parishad will celebrate Janamastmi on August 14. The shobha yatra will be taken out on August 12.top

Vaccination camp
As many as 210 persons, including children, were vaccinated at a subsidised hepatitis B vaccination camp held in the cantonment here on Sunday. The camp was organised by the International Shri Geeta Ashram.

PANCHKULA

Memorandum
The leader of the Haryana Lok Dal (Rashtriya), Mr Om Prakash Chautala, will submit a memorandum of demands to the Deputy Commissioner here on Tuesday. The general secretary of the party, Mr Pardeep Chaudhary said this was to protest against the anti-people policies of the HVP-BJP government.
Tree plantation
A tree plantation camp was organised by the Lions Club, Chandigarh (Host) at Kansal village on Monday. About 500 saplings of different species were planted on the occasion, a press note said.
Donated
Two tricycles were donated to handicapped persons by the Lions Club Chandigarh Nightingale at a ceremony held at Hotel G.K. International, Sector 35. A souvenir was also released on the occasion, a press note said.
Seat reservations
The local Dhanak Mahasabhas demanded implementation of a uniform reservation policy for members of the Scheduled Castes in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh. In a press note issued here on Monday the general secretary of the sabha, Mr H.C. Khundia said the pattern of reservation in Punjab and Haryana, should be adopted in Chandigarh also.

Accidents
Two persons were killed in two different accidents near Nagrota Bagwan on the Pathankot-Mandi national highway on Saturday. Both persons died on the spot. The police has registered cases but no arrest has been made so far.
