Office-bearers
The following have been elected office-bearers of the Shiromani Ragi Sabha, Shri Darbar Sahib: patron — Bhai Hari Singh; president — Bhai Gurmej Singh; vice-president — Bhai Jaswant Singh; general secretary — Bhai Pritam Singh Saron; and treasurer — Bhai Nirmal Singh.
Campaign
A "shramdan week" was organised at Dalim village as part of operation 'Sahyog' by officers of an armoured regiment which has adopted the village. A blood donation camp, and a cleanliness campaign were organised in the village during the week.

Suicide
Kalu Ram (18), a resident of Chananwala village, committed suicide on Sunday on the outskirts of the village. Meanwhile, in a separate case Om Parkash (35) of Nai Abadi here committed suicide by setting himself afire on Monday. He reportedly ended his life due to poverty and depression.
Died
Ali Sher Khan (70), a Pakistani, died in the custody of the Sadar police here on Monday. It is stated that he died due to a prolonged illness.

The following have been elected office-bearers of the Rotary Club: president — Mr Rajinder Gheek; secretary — Mr Bhupinder Malik; and senior vice-president — Mr Rakesh Grover.

Donated
The staff of the Civil Lines branch of Punjab National Bank has donated Rs 34250 to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund (Shakti). The amount represents a day's salary of the staff.

Camp
As many as 165 patients were examined at a free heart check-up camp organised by the Rotary Club, Kurali (district 3083), on Sunday. Mrs Satwinder Dhaliwal, MP, inaugurated. She announced a grant of Rs 2 lakh from the MP's fund.

Ultimatum
Local cane growers on Monday served an ultimatum on Mr D.P. Gupta, SDM, that if the local Oswal Agro-Sugar Mill did not distribute incentive sugar to them, they would start an agitation on August 12.top

FATEHABAD

Five arrested
The police has arrested five women belonging to Madhya Pradesh on a charge of drug-trafficking and seized 55 kg of poppy husk from their possession. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against them.

HISAR

Delegation
A high-level delegation from the Borno state of Nigeria visited Haryana Agricultural University on Sunday. It visited the veterinary clinics of the College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology and the university exhibition hall. According to Dr I.J. Singh, Director, academy of Agricultural Research and Education Management, the purpose of the visit was to study infrastructural facilities.

Protest
College teachers of the local Government College, Chhotu Ram Kisan College and Hindu Kanya Mahavidyalaya went on casual leave on Tuesday in support of their demands, including revised pay scales as recommended by the University Grants Commission and pension facilities on a par with government college teachers.
Bus service
Residents of Jokha Ghati under Kanair village panchayat have demanded a new bus service for Shimla at 6.15 a.m. They have also demanded a change in the timing of the Shimla-Kunihar bus service and the extension of the Shimla-Jokha Ghati bus service up to Kunihar.

Minor raped
A minor girl was allegedly raped at Sanch village on Friday. The father of the girl, in a complaint, has accused Karambir, a neighbour, of the crime. A case under Sections 376, 342 and 506, IPC, has been registered.

Plantation programme
The Forest Department organised a plantation programme at National Fertilisers Limited (NFL) here on Sunday. It was inaugurated by Mr P.S. Grewal, General Manager, NFL.
Training camp
A fire-fighting training camp was organised here on Sunday at the local S.D. Senior Secondary School. It was inaugurated by Mr Anurag Rastogi, Deputy Commissioner.
Prisoner escapes
Devender, alias Sethi, who was in police custody in connection with a theft case, managed to escape on Sunday. Ved Parkash, the guard on duty, has been suspended. A case under Sections 223 and 229, IPC, has been registered against him.

Case registered
A newly married woman of Chamarian village, has been poisoned allegedly by her husband and in-laws. The Sadar police has registered a case against them.

SONEPAT

Suicide cases
Three cases of suicide were reported from the city and the surrounding villages on Monday. The victims have been identified as Raj Bala (32) of Qumashpur village, Sandeep (17) of Bahalgarh village and Surinder (20) of Rajiv Nagar, Sonepat.
Blood donation
A blood donation camp was organised by the Lions Club (Midtown) at Gita Vidya Mandir in Gohana on Sunday. As many as 38 persons donated blood.top

BILASPUR

Crushed
Golu (15), who was mentally retarded, was crushed to death by a truck on the national highway at Bamta, near here on Sunday. The driver has been arrested and a case registered against him.

KASAULI

Action sought
Residents of Sharnot village under Kandaghat tehsil have sought administrative action against IPH officials and anti- social elements for obstructing water supply by blocking the pipe. The supply has been lying suspended for 20 days.

PARWANOO

Memorandum
The Purolator Colony Mahila Mandal has in a memorandum submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, Solan, opposed the move to open a liquor shop at Teepra village, near here. The mandal fears that the liquor shop will lead to criminal activities and family unrest.

The ABVP unit of HP University on Monday organised a day-long dharna demanding direct election to the student body of the university.top
