Kin create ruckus at hospital, allege undue surgery on patient
Jalandhar, October 2 While the kin's relatives and associates created a furore at the hospital for more than an hour, the situation was brought under control only when police arrived at the spot and the affected party was itself pacified by the hospital authorities that they were willing for any tests to be conducted on the patient to ascertain no undue surgery had been conducted. Nhaijar Giri (50) a resident of the Santokhpura area had been admitted to the hospital three months ago with an injured knee. While his knee-bone had been protruding, the kin said the hospital authorities fixed a rod in his leg through surgical procedure but following pain again in his leg a few days ago, they were told some nuts had not been put in his leg. The patient's son Bicky said, "While they had told us a couple of screws in the leg had been forgotten, last night when the authorities were shifting him from the ICU to the general ward, we saw there was an incision in the right side of my father's stomach. We were told nothing about the incision and when we went to the authorities, they refused to listen to us." The hospital authorities, however, termed the allegations of the patients' kin as baseless and said the patient's kin could get a scan conducted at any hospital in the country and check for themselves whether there was anything wrong with the patient's body. Dr. Pooja Kapur, child specialist and owner of the hospital said, "The entire procedure was a part of the treatment of the patient and they can get a scan from any hospital to determine whether there is anything wrong, we will pay for it. The particular incision has been made to graft a tiny part of the pelvic bone (through surgery) on to the patient's femur. Since a piece of the knee had been missing owing to the accident, the incision was to facilitate a knee graft." "The entire confusion has been caused due to misunderstanding by the patient. While the patient was tense, they did not even ask the doctor about the issue and drew conclusions for themselves," she added. Bicky, the son of Nhaijar, said, "We only want that a report should confirm that no shady operation had been carried out on my father and proper treatment of his should be pursued from here on."
