SC cancels 214 of 218 coal blocks
New Delhi, September 24
The Supreme Court today quashed all but four of the 218 coal block allocations done since 1993 illegally and arbitrarily. “There is no reason to save them from cancellation” and the fact that some of them were 90-95% ready for mining “is wholly irrelevant,” a Bench headed by Chief Justice RM Lodha ruled.

SC sets up panel to assess J-K relief work
New Delhi, September 24
The Supreme Court today appointed a five-member committee to assess the situation and relief work in the flood-hit Jammu and Kashmir and submit a report in two weeks. A Bench headed Chief Justice RM Lodha said the Registrar of the state High Court would be the convenor of the committee, which would include a nominee each of the state and the Centre and the secretaries of the HC Bar Associations at Srinagar and Jammu.

25 dead as bus falls into HP lake

25 persons were killed and 22 others injured when an overloaded private mini bus plunged into the waters of the Gobindsagar at Rahian village, about 18 km from Bilaspur town, this morning.
