New Delhi, August 4
The government today sought to put an end to the language row in the UPSC examination by saying marks in English language comprehension skills in the Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) would not be included in preparing the merit list. Minister of State in the PMO Jitendra Singh also informed Parliament that candidates who had appeared in the Civil Services Examination 2011 might be allowed one more attempt in 2015. Instructions in this regard are likely to be sent to the UPSC soon.

HC stays shifting of Virbhadra's IT cases

In an interim relief to Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and his family members, the HP High Court today stayed the order of the Commissioner Income Tax, Shimla, whereby he had ordered to centralise and transfer the cases relating to investigations into the income tax returns of Virbhadra Singh and his family members from Shimla to Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax, Central Circle-I, Chandigarh.

Warring Sikh groups hold secret meet to end impasse
Chandigarh, August 4
To break the deadlock over control and management of Haryana gurdwaras, the warring Sikh groups on Monday held a secret meeting in Yamunanagar. At the hour-long meeting, attended by Shiromani Akali Dal, SGPC members and leaders of the newly constituted Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, it was decided that a five-member committee of Sikh intellectuals would be formed. (More news on Nation page)
