NEW DELHI: Question Hour was again a casualty in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday as Opposition members created an uproar over the 
UPSC issue trooping into the well and forcing adjournament of the House for half-an-hour. As soon as the House assembled for the day and the Chairman tried to take up Question Hour, members from Congress, SP, BSP, CPI-M, CPI, DMK and AIADMK were on their feet raising the UPSC matter.

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court today asked the Centre to take a decision on dissolution of Delhi Assembly "one way or another" within five weeks, questioning it for continuing to keep the house in suspended animation when no party is coming forward to form the government.

44 Kerala nurses arrive from strife-torn Libya
KOCHI: In the first batch of evacuation of Indian nurses from strife-torn Libya, 44 Kerala nurses arrived in Kochi this morning from Dubai. The nurses were brought by bus from Tunisia to Dubai where they boarded a scheduled Emirates flight to Kochi at 3.30 am, airport officials here said.

CHANDIGARH: Punjab Police today claimed to have busted a gang of robbers with the arrest of its seven members from Dera Bassi on the outskirts of Chandigarh. The gang members were active in Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula, police claimed, adding that they are known as "Kala Kachcha gang".

SHIMLA: The Himachal Pradesh High Court has directed the state government to file status report in the case relating to the drowning of 24 engineering students of Hyderabad in Beas River in Mandi district before August 11.

English marks won’t count in UPSC merit list: Govt
Candidates who took 2011 exam may get another shot in 2015
New Delhi, August 4
The government today sought to put an end to the language row in the UPSC examination by saying marks in English language comprehension skills in the Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) would not be included in preparing the merit list. Minister of State in the PMO Jitendra Singh also informed Parliament that candidates who had appeared in the Civil Services Examination 2011 might be allowed one more attempt in 2015. Instructions in this regard are likely to be sent to the UPSC soon.

In an interim relief to Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and his family members, the Virbhadra Singh HP High Court today stayed the order of the Commissioner Income Tax, Shimla, whereby he had ordered to centralise and transfer the cases relating to investigations into the income tax returns of Virbhadra Singh and his family members from Shimla to Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax, Central Circle-I, Chandigarh.

Warring Sikh groups hold secret meet to end impasse
Chandigarh, August 4
To break the deadlock over control and management of Haryana gurdwaras, the warring Sikh groups on Monday held a secret meeting in Yamunanagar. At the hour-long meeting, attended by Shiromani Akali Dal, SGPC members and leaders of the newly constituted Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, it was decided that a five-member committee of Sikh intellectuals would be formed. (More news on Nation page)

Govt, Oppn talks inconclusive
New Delhi, August 4
Parleys between the government and the Opposition over the Insurance Bill remained unresolved today as the Congress-led Opposition, barring the Nationalist Congress Party, insisted the proposed legislation be referred to a Select Committee. Having decided to defer the introduction today, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu met leaders of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, offering to consider proposals/amendments being sought.
