SAD, BJP spat out in open after Tandon remark
Chandigarh, June 16
The ongoing "cold war" between the BJP and the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) is now out in the open. A day after senior BJP leader Balramji Das Tandon questioned Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal's visit to Delhi to meet PM Narendra Modi without taking state BJP leaders along, the SAD today said: "Meeting the PM regarding state-related issues was the sole prerogative of the CM, who does not require anybody's permission for the purpose."

Violent protests erupt in UP over killing of 2 cops
Firozabad/New Delhi, June 16
Violent protests broke out in Uttar Pradesh's Firozabad on Monday over the killing of two police constables by unidentified assailants. Mob violence during the protests also left a DIG of police and several others injured, drawing a strong reaction from the Centre which said it is concerned over the law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh.

Comatose Burundi boy Yannick flown to his home
Patiala, June 16
Burundi national Yannick Nihangaza, who slipped into coma after being brutally assaulted in Jalandhar two years ago, was today flown to his country in an air ambulance from Patiala Aviation Club. Yannick was pursuing a bachelor’s degree in computer science at Lovely Professional University. He was on his way to a party on April 22, 2012, when he was attacked by a group of nine students. Seven of the nine attackers have been sentenced to 10-year imprisonment. The other two fled to Australia.

Her eyes full of tears still wait for her husband who was one of those who got washed away in June last year when flashfloods wreaked havoc in Kedarnath, Uttarakhand. Similar is the fate of all those women who have been left to fend for themselves and their children in Badasu, Lamgaundi and Deoli Bhanigram villages.
