campaign for Tehri
Mussoorie, April 11 Saket, after addressing the gathering at Vikas Nagar, reached Pantwari in Jaunpur development region of district Tehri along with his father, former CM Vijay Bahuguna and the state Congress in charge Rajiv Shukla around noon and sought vote and support for
the party. Saket Bahuguna unleashing verbal attack on the sitting MP Mala Raj Lakshmi Shah said that the people of the Tehri constituency have elected members of royal family on several occasions but have received nothing in return and this election would be over the issue of development vs royal
family. Saket Bahuguna said that the development works done by Congress government were a good benchmark for the people to consider him from Tehri. He said that it was due to efforts of his father for providing OBC status to people from Jaunpur region and announcement of New Tehsil in Nianbagh that will ensure victory for the Congress Party from here. Saket Bahuguna also said that his father Vijay Bahuguna had to care for whole state while he was chief minister but now he will work for speedy development of Tehri with the help of chacha (uncle) Harish Rawat, the present CM of the state. Former CM Vijay Bahuguna seeking votes for his son, Saket, said that he was indebted to the people for Tehri who have bestowed their love and affection by electing him repeatedly and hoped that will continue with the legacy by electing his son too. The Uttarakhand state Congress Party in charge Rajiv Shukla speaking on the occasion said that the sitting MP Mala Raj Lakshmi had failed to raise the important questions related to her constituency in the past 2 years and was busy enjoying the cool air of the rooms in Parliament. Shukla said that not once has MP Raj Lakshmi Shah gone to any minister with a development proposal during her tenure. Therefore, it was imperative to remove such leader and place someone who is ready to work for the constituency. He further said that there was no wave of Narendra Modi and Congress would win all five seats in the state. Confident of the Congress victory he said that the development works such as starting of work on Lakhwar Byasi dam by the former CM Vijay Bahuguna will aid in ensuring emphatic win for the party here. The Congress leaders appealed to remove the incumbent MP Mala Raj Lakshmi from Tehri for speedy development of the region. Rajeev Shukla cornered over issue
of change of leadership in state
Dehradun, April 11 Rajeev Shukla, who was in Dehradun today to address a press conference, was at a loss of words to explain the reasons behind Congress going for a change of leadership in the state. Trying to escape the embarrassment caused by repeated queries on part of mediapersons, Rajeev Shukla argued that earlier Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna himself resigned to make way for a new chief minister and there was nothing undemocratic about it. Responding to other queries, Rajeev Shukla hoped that Congress will win all the five Lok Sabha seats of Uttarakhand. He said a lot of development works have been undertaken in the state under the Congress rule. He reminded that it was Congress-led UPA that ensured one rank one pension to the ex-servicemen, thus benefiting a large population of ex-servicemen in the state. He reiterated that it was wrong to blame Congress for rising corruption and asserted that there were several states that have BJP-ruled governments and said that even those states have challenges of rising inflation. He denied existence of any Modi wave in the country and said that he himself had visited a number of places in Uttarakhand hills today but no Modi wave was there. |

Harish Rawat’s political, family stature at stake
Haridwar, April 11 Now with his wife being fielded from Haridwar constituency, it is now clear that CM Harish Rawat wants to retain this seat. His political and family stature is also at stake as a win will define and ensure his smooth stay as Chief Minister. Rawat not only needs a victory in Almora and Haridwar but also in Pauri, Tehri and Nainitial. Harish Rawat’s active meeting with party workers and the common people in the past two days can be linked with the seriousness he is attaching to this election. As per top party district leaders, Harish Rawat has made it clear that if all Congress party workers remain united in Haridwar ,then victory will be of theirs only. Party leaders close to Harish Rawat camp pointed that a stern message to anti-Rawat faction was imperative as often Congress loses in Haridwar district more because of their inner factionalism. City president OP Chauhan though refuted that there is any fear of factionalism or inner party sabotage, as all are happy with Renuka Rawat's candidature. In this regard the Chief Minister held talks with his bęte noire Braham Swarup Brahamchari, Pradesh Congress Committee treasurer, and close aide of former CM Vijay Bahuguna. Notably,in 2009 too Brahamswarup who was a ticket aspirant remained aloof from the election campaign but later Harish Rawat visited his ashram and appeased him to don the mantle as election in charge. “The Chief Minsiter has to look after the in all five parliamentary constituencies. Hence, it is our duty to ensure his presence is minimal in Haridwar so that he could concentrate on other four seats. He has given us a message to fight unitedly as every seat counts. Renukaji’s win will ensure people of Haridwar get direct attention of CM Harish Rawat and development spree continues,” said Chauhan. At a meeting at Chetan Jyoti Ashram of party leaders, Harish Rawat made it clear that as he has to look into all five seats. It is the duty of the district party leaders to take responsibility of leading the election campaign of Renuka Rawat. A youth wing leader on condition of anonymity said that CM gave indirect hint that those who will work hard and effectively during the election will be rewarded post elections and linked Renuka as his wife and representative, as Haridwar had given him a new political life, a record win in 2009, Union Cabinet portfolio, now Chief Minister’s post, love, affection and spiritual solace, too. |

Ex-Zila Panchayat chairperson Barkha quits BJP
Haridwar, April 11 They alleged the party lacked development-oriented vision and was projecting only one man (Narendra Modi). They also accused the BJP district unit and Jwalapur legislator Chandrasekhar Bhattewala of sidelining them. Notably, in the 2012 state Assembly elections, Barkha Rani had left the Congress after being denied the party ticket. Later, she joined the BJP. Lashing out at the BJP party high command for not fielding a local candidate from the Haridwar seat, Barkha alleged it seemed only high-profile leaders had a say in the party. Barkha alleged the BJP was anti-Dalit, anti-minority and anti-development. She claimed that the BJP would lose the elections as the Modi wave was nothing but a media campaign backed by crores of rupees. Meanwhile, rumours of Barkha Rani rejoining the Congress are doing the rounds. City unit Congress president OP Chauhan said Barkha’s resignation was a proof of the "autocratic" working of the BJP. He said Barkha Rani was welcome to rejoin the party provided she was ready to abide by the BJP's ideology and discipline. On the other hand, Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate Anita Saini said women leaders like Barkha Rani should join hands with the SP and support her in the elections as politics in the district was dominated by male counterparts only. |
