EC nod to govt for naming new Navy Chief

Almost a month after Navy Chief Admiral DK Joshi quit, the Ministry of Defence is yet to take a final call on who to appoint as his successor. The delay is being attributed to reasons like conducting a fresh background check and assessing annual confidential reports. The appointment can take around 10 more days, sources maintain.

‘Liquor distribution’ at rally

Inquiry officer PS Gill has given a clean chit to the organisers of the March 20 Shiromani Akali Dal rally at Ghanaur where liquor was allegedly distributed to woo voters. In the inquiry report, the officer has absolved the party cadre of any wrongdoing stating that “no faces highlighted in the media report” can be identified.

India to press for safety of nuclear weapons
New Delhi, March 23
India is likely to push for stringent global measures to ensure safety of nuclear weapons. At the third Nuclear Security Summit (NSS) which opens at The Hague tomorrow, New Delhi is likely to call for ‘greater practical cooperation’ against illicit trafficking of nuclear material.

“Hum kiyon banave apni chhori ka vote, ye to shadi karke chali jayegi. Badiya yehi hai ki ye shaadi ke baad apne sasural main hi apna vote banave (why should we get our daughter enrolled as a voter as she will have to migrate to her in-laws’ after her marriage. It’ll be better if she gets herself enrolled as a voter there only),” said Braha Khurd resident Ganga Devi (85).
