The man behind witty, fearless & acerbic writings is no more
New Delhi, March 20
Khushwant Singh Celebrated author and journalist Khushwant Singh, who arguably wrote the most definitive history of Sikhs, died at his Delhi home on Thursday. The 99-year-old, who had not been keeping well for quite some time and had withdrawn from public life, passed away peacefully at his residence at Sujan Singh Park, Delhi’s first apartment complex, which incidentally was built by his father in 1945.
He wrote his own epitaph
"I would like to be remembered as someone who made people smile. A few years ago, I wrote my own epitaph: Here lies one who spared neither man nor God; Waste not your tears on him, he was a sod; Writing nasty things he regarded as great fun; Thank the Lord he is dead, this son of a gun."
