Cong to form panels for LS polls
New Delhi, March 20 The decision was taken on the direction of All India Congress Committee general secretary Shakeel Ahmed and DPCC president Arvinder Singh Lovely. "Committed and devoted party workers would be given a place in the new executive committee," said DPCC spokesperson Mukesh Sharma. The new committee will be formed before June 1, he said. Sharma said that along with the reconstitution of the executive committee, new election committees for the assembly and corporation elections would be constituted. "These committees will be entrusted with the responsibility of the Lok Sabha elections," said Sharma. Lovely appealed to the Youth Congress workers to win the support of newly enrolled young voters by making them aware of the policies and programmes of the party and also about the achievements of the former Congress government in Delhi. "The party has sped up its works for the preparation of the Lok Sabha elections," said Lovely after addressing a meeting of the Delhi Pradesh Youth Congress held today. He expressed hope that the Youth Congress workers would work with vigour at the polling-booth levels and would have better results in the Lok Sabha elections. He said the Congress had carried out the development works in Delhi and whenever non-Congress governments came to power in Delhi, the development works had stopped. |
JDU leader Danish joins Congress
New Delhi, March 20 After joining it, Danish said, "I am not new to Congress as since childhood, I have been a Congressman." Welcoming Danish and his supporters who also joined the party, East Delhi MP, Sandeep Dikshit said that Arvind Kejriwal was trying to divide its secular votes across the country just to support BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. "In his recent letter to Modi, Kejriwal had asked around 16 questions pertaining to roads, education, health and development, but he didn't ask any questions on the 2002 Gujarat riots. This suggests that he was trying to divide Congress' secular votes in Delhi and other states," Dikshit said. Dikshit, son of former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, said that though Kejriwal didn't ask any questions on the riots, the first question from the Congress to Modi is on that issue. "We can talk about development later, but our first question to Modi is on the 2002 Gujarat riots. Kejriwal, who claims to launch a campaign against Modi, is targeting one particular community to secure votes and thereby supporting Modi. Seeing this, I will not get surprised if Kejriwal-led AAP merges with the BJP in the next two to three years," Dikshit said. Arvinder Singh Lovely, president of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC), also said that the party would win all the seven Lok Sabha seats in the national Capital. |
