Haryana Finance Minister Harmohinder Singh Chattha today presented a Rs 73,301.08-crore state Budget for 2014-15. Chattha’s third and the Hooda government’s last Budget before the polls proposed no new taxes. Education, sports, power and social welfare sectors got the largest share.

Rs 2,246-cr Central aid to combat waterlogging in Punjab
New Delhi, February 28
The Centre today sanctioned a special package of Rs 2,246 crore to address acute water-logging problem in the south-west districts of Punjab like Faridkot, Ferozepur, Muktsar and Bathinda. The integrated project was sanctioned following a report submitted by a high-level expert group headed by Planning Commission member Mihir Shah last year.

CBI seals bank accounts of Pearl Group
New Delhi, February 28
The CBI has seized the accounts of Pearl Group and its directors and promoters. They have around 1,000 accounts in 35 banks. During investigation, the CBI came to know that Pearl Group, which was allegedly involved in a land scam, has 1.3 crore investors in Uttar Pradesh, 51 lakh in Tamil Nadu, 61 lakh in Maharashtra, 45 lakh in Rajasthan and 25 lakh in Haryana.

After registration of a case of criminal conspiracy and cheating against Nirmal Singh Bhangoo and Sukhdev Singh, promoters of PACL and PGFL, both of them — along with company directors — have gone missing.

States alerted on poor Monsoon this year
New Delhi, February 28
Amid reports that El Nino weather pattern could affect the crucial monsoon this year, the Centre has asked states to be fully prepared ahead of the upcoming kharif sowing season. Agriculture Secretary Ashish Bahuguna advised states to be fully geared up to meet any eventuality in the wake of erratic rains at a conference for consultations on preparedness for the sowing season.
