Free medical camp held at Civil Secretariat
: The Punjab Civil Secretariat Staff Association organised a free medical check-up camp in memory of Jaswant Singh Randhawa, former chairman of the association. Surjit Kumar Jyani, Health Minister and Chief Secretary Rakesh Singh were present. As many as 585 persons participated. Free medicines were distributed among the needy, said association chief Parmdeep Singh Bhabat.

Chairmen appointed: Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal appointed seven chairmen of boards and corporations of the state government. Shakti Kumar Sharma has been appointed the chairman of Punjab Small Industrial Export Corporation; Vinod Kumar Sharma as chairman of Water Supply and Sewerage Board; Raghunath Singh Rana as chairman of Medium Industries Development Board; Vijay Sampla as chairman of State Forest Development Corporation; Harjeet Singh Grewal as chairman of Khadi and Village Industries Board; Manjeet Singh Rai as chairman of Information and Communication Corporation (Punjab Infotech); and Narottam Dev Ratti as Chairman of Punjab Traders Board.

: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Arun Sekhri launched a website, www.gurdwarajob.com, at Gurudwara Fatehgarh Sahib on Wednesday. The web portal will work as a bridge between people looking for jobs in gurdwaras worldwide as well as for gurdwara authorities, who are looking for capable or experienced staff to manage religious institutions.

Shaheedi Jor Mela: DC issues ban orders: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Arun Sekhri has issued ban orders to maintain sanctity and public convenience during the annual Shaheedi Jor Mela from December 25 to December 27. The DC has banned circus, skill games, amusement games, gambling stalls and sale of intoxicants besides putting up of stalls selling meat products. The ban will remain in force till December 31.

200 sheep breeders undergo training: The Agriculture Technology Management Agency under the guidance of MI Mir, District Sheep Husbandry Officer, Kishtwar, organised a training programme for breeders at Panjdharna Dachhan on Monday. About 200 sheep breeders were made aware of latest techniques of sheep rearing and wool and mutton production.

Blood donation camp organised:
Employees of HDFC Bank on Wednesday donated blood in a camp organised at the district hospital. District Superintendent of Police (SP) Mubassir Latifi, medical superintendent Arun Sharma and HDFC branch manager Wasim Mir were present at the camp. HDFC bank branch manager Wasim Mir said such camps would be organised in future as well. Blood donation is a noble cause which helps in saving precious human lives, said SP Mubassir Latifi.

Man arrested with 1-kg charas
: The police arrested a man and seized 1-kg charas from him on Monday. He has been identified as Shamis Din, a resident of Ramban. Recently, the police seized a consignment of poppy straws from a truck carrying apples boxes.
