Liquor worth RS 35 lakh seized, two held:
The police in neighbouring Rajasthan seized 925 cartons of country-made liquor from a truck on the Sriganganagar-Bikaner stretch of the national highway on Sunday. The driver of the truck, Resham Singh Kauni, and cleaner Kala Ram of Bathinda have been arrested. The truck’s owner, Sukhdev Singh, has been booked.

Sikh jatha returns from Pakistan:
A jatha of Sikh devotees, numbering 2,100, today returned from Pakistan in three special trains after paying obeisance at historic gurdwaras. Headed by Randheer Singh Cheema, it had left for Pakistan on November 17. The pilgrims visited Gurdwara Sri Nankana Sahib, Gurdwara Sacha Sauda, Sri Panja Sahib, Gurdwara Dehra Sahib in Lahore, Gurdwara Rori Sahib and Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib.

3.5 lakh children given polio drops
: At least 3.50 lakh children, below the age of 5 years, were administered Pulse Polio drops on the first day of the sub-national immunisation drive for eradication of polio on Sunday. Health Minister Surjit Kumar Jyani said the special pulse polio drive would be held in all the districts of the state.

Two boys killed in road accident
: Two boys identified as Harjot Singh of Bharta Khurd village and Kamaljit of Wazidpur village died in a road accident. The Activa scooter they were riding on collided head-on with a canter near Mehrampur village. Canter driver Baljar Singh of Behlolpur village has been booked.

5 quintals poppy husk seized, man held
: The police have arrested a truck driver with 21 bags containing over five quintals of poppy husk. Truck driver Mukhtiar Singh of Kajikot village has been booked under the NDPS Act. The truck was intercepted in Mehlan village on Saturday. The accused was produced in a Sunam court on Sunday and sent to police remand for two days.

BILASPUR
Youth dies as truck hits bike
: Roshan Singh (23), originally from Assam and now residing at the BBMB Colony, Sallapad (Sundernagar), was killed as a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction hit his bike near a hotel on National Highway-21, 3 km from here, on Friday. Reports said Roshan was going towards Bilaspur town while the truck was on its way to Barmana. Head Constable Lalit Kumar, following the truck by chance, stopped the truck. The police arrested driver Mahender Singh of Mandi district, took his truck into their possession and registered a case.

Power line blast victim dies: Radhika (12), daughter of Mahender Singh of Dhar Tatoh village under Barmana police station, 35 km from here, died at the PGI, Chandigarh, where she was admitted about 15 days ago. Reports said Radhika was playing on the roof of her house when there was a blast due to a short circuit in the 132-KV power line going above this house and she was badly burnt. She was rushed to the Regional Hospital here and then to the PGI.

DALHOUSIE
1 held with 800 gm charas
: The police on Friday seized charas weighing 800 gm from a bus passenger, identified as Uttam Chand. He was arrested at Bounkhri Mor, 10 km from here, a police report said. The report said an HRTC bus, going from Harchhu to Indora, was intercepted by a police party on patrol at Bounkhri Mor. A case against the accused had been registered under Section 20, NDPS Act, at the Dalhousie police station.

Electronic goods stolen
: Electronic goods worth Rs 15 lakh were stolen from a computer shop in the early hours on Saturday. Thieves broke the cemented wall of the shop from the backside and stole laptops, cameras, mobile phones and other goods from the shop. The shop is just 200 metres from the police station. He said though a CCTV was installed inside the shop, its hard disk was also removed by the miscreants. Palampur DSP Navdeep Singh said police teams had been dispatched to different directions to nab the culprits.

Udhampur Senior citizen killed:A senior citizen was killed when a speeding car hit him near the Head Post Office here today. Amar Nath, 88, was trying to cross the road when a car on its way to Slathia Chowk hit him, police said.
