Aziz, PM discuss bilateral issues

New Delhi, November 13
Sartaj Aziz, Pakistan Prime Minister's Adviser on Foreign Affairs, met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and discussed bilateral relations today.

Official sources said it was a "courtesy call" by Aziz since he was here for the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) that concluded yesterday.

Pakistan High Commission sources said Aziz conveyed Sharif's greetings to Manmohan Singh and expressed Islamabad's desire to have good relations with India.

Aziz yesterday held separate meetings with External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid and National Security Adviser Shivshanker Menon.

Salman Khurshid told him in unequivocal terms that Pakistan must take into account India's sentiments and sensitivities if it was serious about holding a meaningful dialogue with India.

The Pakistan Foreign Office, however, ignored India's objection to Aziz's meeting with Kashmiri separatists soon after his arrival in New Delhi on Sunday.

"It is customary when our Foreign Minister or Foreign Secretary goes to India for an official commitment, they do consult Kashmiri leaders," the Foreign Office spokesman said.

The dialogue

Islamabad: Pakistan on Wednesday said it wanted resumption of the dialogue process with India for resolving all outstanding issues, including the "core issue" of Kashmir. Foreign Office spokesman Aizaz Chaudhry said Kashmir was the core issue between the two countries and its solution lied in the dialogue process, which should include the Kashmiri leadership. — PTI
