Three booked for forgery

Acting upon the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the Kotbhai police has booked three persons, including an advocate of Faridkot, for allegedly making a fake certificate of Class X and attesting it.

The police informed that Satnam Singh of Mandi Bariwala had prepared a fake certificate of matric and married Navjot Kaur of Assa Buttar. He produced the certificate in the court, which was found to be a fake.

“One Jaswinder Singh of Hardialewala village had assisted him in making the certificate, while advocate Pushdev Singh Gill had attested it,” said the police.

A case under Sections 420, 465, 468, 471 and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered in this regard, but the accused are at large.

Woman killed in road mishap

Fazilka, October 31
A woman was killed while her seven-year-old son and a nephew had a narrow escape in a road accident near here.

Kaushalya Bai (35), a resident of local Nai Abadi Pir Guraya, had gone to meet her parents at Saido Ke Hithar village along with her son Ajay Kumar (7).

She was on her way back to Fazilka along with her son and nephew Balkar Singh when the bike they were riding rammed into a tractor-trailer loaded with paddy on the Ferozepur road near here.

Kaushalya Bai was run over by the tractor-trailer and died on spot. Her nephew sustained minor injuries while her son Ajay escaped unhurt.

The driver of the tractor-trailer fled from the spot leaving his vehicle behind.

Abohar trader ends life

Abohar, October 31
Hari Kothari, the owner of a leading readymade garments showroom in the Gurdwara Singh Sabha market here, reportedly ended his life by jumping before an Intercity train that was approaching the local railway station from Sriganganagar side.

Witnesses are believed to have told the railway police that Kothari parked his bike near the railway track and jumped before the train resulting in his death on the spot. The police has initiated inquest proceedings in this connection under Section 174 of the CrPC. — OC

Abohar, October 31
Students of Government High School at Gobindgarh village, 8 km from here, have won two gold, two silver and six bronze medals in the state school games claiming the second runners up position.

The winners Harveer, Gautam, Nirmala, Sumitpal and Vikram were felicitated during the morning assembly today by village Sarpanch Hardev Singh. The panchayat announced Rs 5100 as special prize money for the winners. Headmistress Seema Rani thanked the gathering. — OC
