Meanwhile a strict clampdown remained enforced in most parts of south Kashmir, including Shopian, Pulwama and Kulgam towns. In Shopian, curfew was eased on Wednesday morning after four consecutive days of restrictions; authorities had to re-impose the clampdown in the evening after clashes broke out against the killing in Gagren area. The restrictions were imposed in south Kashmir after CRPF personnel shot dead three youth and an alleged Lashkar operative in Gagren area of Shopian. Stray incidents of violence were reported from some parts of Shopian town. Parts of Kulgam district, including the main town, remained under curfew for the fifth straight day. Curfew was imposed in Pulwama district as well while a complete shutdown was observed in the neighbouring Anantnag district. Here, the protesters reportedly pelted stones on security vehicles that were passing through the area. North Kashmir
The impact of the strike was more in north Kashmir. The normal life was paralysed in Baramulla, Bandipore and Kupwara districts. Shops and commercial establishments remained closed and public transport was completely off the roads. Fewer private vehicles were seen plying on the roads. Unauthorised stone crushers seized in Handwara
Handwara, September 12 On September 3, the committee conducted an extensive tour of Langate, Handwara, Nowgam and Reshwari and interacted with district and tehsil administration about impact of the existing stone-crushers at nullah Mawar, Jahama and Reshwari in Kupwara district. A team of officials led by Tehsildar and Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) visited the spot yesterday and ordered closure of crushers operating illegally. “Following court directions, a team of officials closed down five stone crushers operating illegally in the nullah. Locals hailed the action by the district administration and said this will help a great deal in protecting the environment. “Our long-pending demand has been fulfilled.
