Man kills father, booked 
Hoshiarpur, August 29
A man, allegedly frustrated over the callous behaviour of his father, murdered the latter at Slaempur village last night. The police said Jaswant Singh, the accused, was not happy as his father would behave rudely with him and other family members after consuming liquor.
Last night, Jasbir picked up a quarrel with Jaswant which enraged the latter. In a fit of rage, Jaswant Singh attacked his father with a sickle and fled.

Chemist shops raided, banned drugs seized 
Hoshiarpur, August 29
The district police along with drug inspectors conducted raids in various shops in the district and seized huge cache of proscribed drugs.

Woman commits suicide
Tarn Taran, August 29
Jasbir Kaur (35) of Bhai Ladhu village, 40 kilometers from here, committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance allegedly due to the ill-treatment meted out to her by her husband.

Man kills father, booked

A man, allegedly frustrated over the callous behaviour of his father, murdered the latter at Slaempur village last night.

The police said Jaswant Singh, the accused, was not happy as his father would behave rudely with him and other family members after consuming liquor.

Last night, Jasbir picked up a quarrel with Jaswant which enraged the latter. In a fit of rage, Jaswant Singh attacked his father with a sickle and fled. Jaswant Singh was admitted to the Civil Hospital, Tanda, where he succumbed to his injuries.

On the statement of Jasbir Singh's wife Balwinder Kaur, the Tanda police has registered a case under Section 302 of the IPC against Jaswant Singh.

Ex-sarpanch booked for abduction

The Dasuya police last night booked Harcharan Singh, a former Sarpanch, of Behwoal Chhania village, his son Ranbir Singh and their two accomplices for allegedly abducting Surjit Singh, son of Hoshiar Singh of Badla.

The police said Surjit Singh and his brother Mohinder Singh had taken land from Mahant Varinder Mohan at Sehrik village on lease. Yesterday, Surjit along with his nephew and Mohinder's son Arun Rana went to the fields.

Harcharan Singh and his son Ranbir Singh along with two of their accomplices reached there and started ploughing the land. When Surjit Singh asked them to stop, they allegedly beat him and took him away in their vehicle and fled. The accused also took their tractor, alleged Mohinder Singh in his statement to the police.

Smack, poppy husk seized, six held

The district police arrested six persons and seized smack, poppy husk, intoxicated powder and pills from them.

Reports said while patrolling in Bhagat Nagar area, the Model Town police intercepted Nirdev Singh of local Bassi Khawaju and on search seized 180 gram smack from him.

The Model Town police intercepted Bharat Kalia of Bank Colony and seized 170 gram intoxicant powder from him. The police also intercepted Ashvani Kumar of Clock Tower and seized 100 gram intoxicant powder from him. The Tanda police arrested Paramjit Kaur, wife of Tarsem Singh of Chotala, and seized 1 Kg poppy husk from her.The police also arrested Sukhwinder Singh of Mohalla Kaintha and Sham Sunder of Aslamabad and seized pills and powder from them.

Chemist shops raided, banned drugs seized

The district police along with drug inspectors conducted raids in various shops in the district and seized huge cache of proscribed drugs.

In a press release, Hoshiarpur SSP Sukhchain Singh Gill said that to nab drug peddlers, various shops in Mukerian town were raided and 440,093 pills, 137,000 capsules, 1,346 injections and 2,285 syrups having intoxicating effect were seized from Aggarwal Medical Store.

The Mukerian police has registered a case under Sections 22, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act against shop owner Ashok Kumar Gupta of New Colony, Mukerian. The drug inspector initiated action against the owner of the store under the Drug and Cosmetic Act.

The police raided six medical stores in Tanda and seized 2,800 pills and 160 capsules having intoxicating effect from Pal Medical Store. Action has been initiated against shop owner Ashok Kumar of Nainowal Vaid.

The police also raided 11medicine shops at local Bassi Khawaju but found nothing suspicious.

Woman commits suicide

Tarn Taran, August 29
Jasbir Kaur (35) of Bhai Ladhu village, 40 kilometers from here, committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance allegedly due to the ill-treatment meted out to her by her husband.

Lakhwinder Singh, the deceased's husband, has been booked under Section 306 of the IPC by the Bhikhiwind police.

Kulwinder Kaur, the deceased's sister, in her complaint to the police alleged that her sister had been ill-treated by Lakhwinder and he had had illicit relations with another woman.

The deceased has been survived by two daughters and a son.
