New Delhi, August 12
Pakistan today asked India to tighten security at Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) offices located in Mumbai and New Delhi, claiming it had received threats of an attack on these offices.

“We have requested the Indian Government through diplomatic channels to ensure the safety and security of PIA offices,” a Pakistan High Commission source said. The source said Pakistan Deputy High Commissioner Mansoor Ahmed Khan had also telephoned Rudrendra Tandon, Joint Secretary (in-charge of Pakistan) in the External Affairs Ministry, in this regard.

According to the Delhi Police, they had received a complaint that the nameplate of the PIA at its Barakhamba Road office in New Delhi was this morning found to have been sprayed with black colour. The police has registered a case under the Delhi Property Defacement Act.

Relations between the two countries have suffered a setback in the wake of the killing of five Indian soldiers along the LoC. BJP and Congress activists have staged demonstrations outside the Pakistan High Commission to protest against the killings. Some protestors had even stopped the Delhi-Lahore bus on August 10 over the killing.

Meanwhile, in Islamabad, Pakistan summoned Indian Deputy High Commissioner Gopal Baglay to the foreign office to “protest against” what it alleged “continuous ceasefire violations” by the BSF along the LoC over the past couple of days. Islamabad claimed that these ceasefire violations had resulted in the loss of an innocent life in Rawalakot.
