Industry to pay lump sum tax on goods sent through trains

The textile and knitwear industry today heaved a sigh of relief after the Excise and Taxation Department agreed to charge lump sum tax on the hosiery goods sent through trains. The lump sum tax will be applicable from tomorrow.

MC fails to check illegal construction

Elevated Road a killer stretch

As the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation has failed to install safety grills on the Elevated Road, city residents often become victims of fatal accidents. Each time an accident occurs on the road, the MC officers get up from their deep slumber and begin playing the blame game.

Students to boycott classes at PAU today

Punjab Agriculture University Student Association (PAUSA) has called for the boycott of classes at the College of Agriculture Engineering tomorrow. The association is protesting against the Vice-Chancellor's decision of rusticating a student and cancelling the admission of two others on July 24.

Construction of new footbridge starts at Ludhiana railway station

Dispute settlement
Members of the United Cycle and Parts Manufacturers' Association (UCPMA) took part in the Zonal Dispute Settlement Committee meeting (central zone) on Monday. Chief Engineer Rachpal Singh presided over the meeting. As many as 20 cases of sub-urban, west and east circle, were discussed along with the alarming issue of prolonged power cuts, for over 24 to 36 hours, from sub-station focal point at phase-VIII. Members of UCPMA suggested amendments to be made accessible without any further delay.
Two drug peddlers held

The local police arrested two drug peddlers and seized 20 kgs of poppy husk from their possession during a routine patrolling.
The accused have been identified as Jammu Singh and Hardeep Singh, both residents of Ghungrana village.
Two booked for duping woman of Rs 2.5 lakh

The city police has booked two persons for duping a woman for Rs 2.5 lakh on the pretext of getting her daughter recruited as a government school teacher in Haryana. The accused have been identified as Avinash Singh and Gurdeep Singh Bhola, both residents of Delhi.The case has been registered following an investigation.
