Stray animals pose threat to residents’ lives
Pathankot, July 31 Anil Vij, former president of the Pathankot Municipal Committee (before it was upgraded to a corporation), said the MC had constructed a shed near circular road, covering nearly 10 kanals, to house stray bulls. However, a majority of the residents claim that it is not enough. “There are hundreds of stray animals roaming the streets of the city. Constructing just one shed is not enough. More such sheds should come up. Moreover, there are two gaushalas in the town which are not sufficient. NGOs should join hands with the district administration to find a permanent solution to the problem,” averred Kartik Wadhera, a resident. Deputy Commissioner Siben C said he had written to the Union Government to release funds for the construction of a Nandshala, where stray bulls can be housed. “I am aware of the gravity of the problem which has increased manifold in the last few years. This is resulting in accidents, many of them which are turning out to be fatal. The administration is also in the process of roping in some NGOs and prominent citizens in an attempt to solve the problem,” he added. |
