Juveniles steal material worth
Rs 8 lakh
Bathinda, July 18 Two children, visibly around 8 and 12 years old, took away material worth Rs 8 lakh, including cash and jewellery, from the Stella Hotel on the Bibiwala road last night when a marriage function was under way. As per the CCTV footage, around 9.30 pm, two children were seen taking away the purse of a woman that contained Rs 6.5 lakh in cash and jewellery worth Rs 1.5 lakh. The victim said the cost of the purse was Rs 25,000 which was brought by a relative from the US. The police has registered a case in this regard. “The CCTVs installed at the hotel captured the incident very clearly but it seems to be of a little help as the police does not seem to be keen on reaching the depth of the case,” alleged Parmod Mittal, whose niece’s wedding was organised in the hotel. He said the boys were seen hiding the purse and all the cameras captured them till they vanished from near the parking area. Mittal said the boys appeared to be accompanying a family. They were seen noticing the woman taking out a gold ring from the purse. “They moved from one sofa to another in the hall. There were many other purses lying on the sofa but they took away the one which carried the cash and jewellery,” he added. He stated that some of the cash was to be used to foot the hotel bill while the remaining was given by relatives as shagun. Mittal said the nearly 35-minute CCTV footages raised doubts over the credibility of the waiters at the hotel, who seemed to have connived with the perpetrators. “Though it is not clear yet but it appears that the waiters seemed to be aware of the fact that the two boys were outsiders as they kept watching them and the boys too communicated with them with facial and body expressions,” Mittal alleged. He said he along with other family members also met Bathinda SSP Ravcharan Brar and apprised him of the incident. The SSP informed that a gang of children was active in the city sometime ago and it appeared that it had resurfaced. Meanwhile, just an hour after the theft of purse from the hotel, a Hyundai Verna car worth above Rs 6 lakh was lifted from outside the hotel. In other similar incidents Roopak Monga of Fazilka said his bike worth nearly Rs 25,000 was stolen from the Mansa road by unidentified persons. Blaming the UPA government for the troubled state of the Indian economy, the MP said it was ironical that the beneficiaries of the so-called food security plan have not yet been identified.
