SC Rejects Plea to Reduce Age of Juvenile Offenders New Delhi, July 17 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected a PIL that sought an amendment to the Juvenile Justice Act for lowering the age for trial of a juvenile accused. The PIL wanted the age of a juvenile accused in rape and murder cases to be lowered from 18 to 16 years. PIL was filed after the December 16 gang rape.
Chhapra: Protests after children die of food poisoning Chhapra, July 17 (ANI): Protests erupted in Chhapra after the death toll of children who fell ill after having midday meal at a state-run primary school in Bihar's Saran district, rose to atleast 19. The protesters demanded Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's ouster. Ten of the 27 children taken to hospital remain critical. Nitish Kumar expressed shock over the incident and announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the kin of each of the dead school children.
Bihar govt should have taken action on the prior complains: Jagdambika Pal New Delhi, July 17 (ANI): Following the death of almost 20 children after consuming the mid-day meal served in the government school in Bihar, Congress leader Jagdambika Pal on Wednesday said that Bihar government should have taken action on the very first complain of this sort. He also said that there should be investigation on the case and the culprit should be punished for serving poison, rather than food to the children
Salman Bashir assures ‘proper trial’ in 26/11 Mumbai attacks case New Delhi, July 17 (ANI): Pakistan’s High Commissioner to India Salman Bashir gave an assurance that the designated court in his country hearing the case of the perpetrators 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks would conduct a ‘proper trial’. Recently the trial of seven Pakistani suspects in the case, including Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, was adjourned till July 20.
Surmayi Raat with Gulzar and Bhupinder Singh Mumbai, July 17 (ANI): Two of the biggest living legends of our music industry, Gulzar and Bhupinder Singh launched their latest album ‘Surmayi Raat’ in the showbiz capital Mumbai. On the occasion Bhupinder Singh’s wife and singer Mitali Singh recited few lines of her own poem.The Gulzar-Bhupinder jodi dates back to the eighties with compositions like “Meri aawaz hi pehchaan hai” and now their latest creation Surmayi Raat is a collection of eight Ghazals and Nazms. The evening even saw a live performance by Gazal maestro Bhupinder Singh who sang few lines from the album.
