BJP Kisan Morcha office-bearers
: State president of the BJP Kisan Morcha Jatinder Atwal on Wednesday announced the units' office-bearers. They are: vice-presidents: Gurmail Singh Saran (Moga), Charanjeet Singh Randhawa (Gurdaspur), Dhanantar Singh (Mansa), Harwinder Singh (Hoshiarpur) and Ranjeet Singh Kahlon (Gurdaspur); general secretaries: Ashwani Rana (Ropar) and Jaswant Singh Sandhu (Mukatsar); secretaries: Major Pal Singh (Khanna), Maninder Singh (Sangrur), Charanjeet Singh (Sujanpur), Jagdeep Singh Nagla (Mohali), Baldev Singh (Bathinda) and Wazir Singh (Amritsar); and cashier: Pankaj Mahajan.

Faridkot
Youth gets 10-year RI for raping minor:
For the offence of raping a minor girl, the court of district and sessions judge Faridkot on Wednesday awarded 10-year rigorous imprisonment to a youth. The police had registered a criminal case against Jagjit Singh of Malla village after the father of the victim girl made a complaint to Bajakhana police. The youth was accused of luring the 13-year-old minor girl and molesting her.

Rs 6.2 cr grant for sewerage project
: The World Bank has sanctioned Rs 6.20 crore to the district under its small bore sewerage development programme. Initially, sewerage would be laid in five villages and Rs 1.30 crore would be spent to install RO systems in 13 villages, said Deputy Commissioner Arun Sekhri on Wednesday. He said earlier Rs 10.49 crore had been spent to provide drinking water to people in the district.

Spray on paddy with 10% damage: PAU: The Department of Entomology of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has advised farmers to spray on those paddy fields where leaf damage was 10 per cent. It had received reports about the appearance of leaf folder in the crop from farmers and the field staff of various Krishi Vigyan Kendras located across the state. Dr Balwinder Singh, Head of Entomology Department, asked farmers to spray a mixture of 350 ml Sutathion 40 EC and 100 litres of water on every acre.

Territorial Cong panel spokespersons: President of the Chandigarh Territorial Congress Committee (CTCC) BB Bahl, in a press note, said the Congress had nominated Amarjit Sethi, Pardeep Chhabra, Ravinderpal Singh, Lalit Joshi, and Davinder Lubana as spokespersons for the committee with immediate effect. All the spokesperson will attend an orientation camp in New Delhi from July 21 to 23.

Scooter taken away forcibly: Three unidentified miscreants on foot snatched away a “Honda Activa” scooter belonging to a Sector 27 resident last night. Akhilesh Mishra, a resident of Sector 27-C reported the matter to the police that he got into an argument with three persons on the Sector 27/28 road when they threatened and forcibly took away his scooter. A case has been registered.

Chandigarh: Harish Kumar, Secretary of the Chandigarh Table Tennis Association, has been nominated as the manager of the Indian team participating in the South Asian Junior Table Tennis Championship to be held at New Delhi from July 20 to 22.

Basketball Championship from July 22: The Chandigarh Basketball Association will conduct Col Balraj Singh Sub-Junior State Basketball Championship for boys and girls from July 22 to July 25 at the New Public School, Sector 18, Chandigarh.

1 dies of snake bite
: Sheela Devi (72) of Baddu-Glassi village, near Ghumarwin, was found dead in her house on Tuesday morning. Reports said members of her family, who were also sleeping in the same room, found a snake in the room.

Hamirpur
Man dies in road accident:
A man was killed when he was hit by a truck in the Hira Nagar area yesterday. The police said Pawan Kumar was cutting marble sheets near a timber depot when he was hit by a truck that was being reversed there. He was taken to the Regional Hospital, Hamirpur, where he succumbed to his injuries today. The police has booked Ramesh Guleria, driver of the truck, for the accident.
