Annashree Yojna Eligibility criteria relaxed
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, July 3
The Delhi Cabinet today decided to relax the eligibility criteria of its Annashree Yojna in order to extend its benefits to more vulnerable families.
The scheme assures a subsidy of Rs 600 a month to nearly one lakh households. A proposal to relax the eligibility criteria for getting benefits under the scheme was approved by the Cabinet.

According to the decision, any household whose head has been a resident of Delhi for at least three years and the annual family income is not more than Rs 1 lakh will be eligible for benefits under the scheme.

"The cut-off date for residing in Delhi has been fixed as January 1, 2010," said Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. The earlier cut-off date was April 1, 2008.

The basic eligibility criterion, that to get benefits under the scheme a household must not avail benefits under the BPL scheme and the Antyodaya Anna Yojana, will remain the same.

"It is a sincere effort in the direction of ensuring food security in the city. The new beneficiaries would become eligible for benefits with retrospective effect from April 1, 2013," Dikshit added.

The Chief Minister said due to the earlier fixed cut-off date for residency, a large number of people were left out. So far, around one lakh households have been included under the scheme which was launched on December 15 last year.

Under the scheme, a monthly subsidy of Rs 600 is transferred directly into the Aadhaar-linked bank account of the seniormost female member of the beneficiary families. The government in April had extended the benefits under the scheme to widows getting pension from the Delhi Government.

New Delhi, July 3
The Delhi Transport Department is considering introducing new Tata four-wheeler autos in the city. Besides, the Delhi Government is likely to introduce more convenient buses from Sweden, China and Poland in the city under a pilot project, said a spokesperson of the department here today.

The department has been directed to study the technical details of the four-wheeler autos and feasibility of their running on the city roads. The new autos would be able to carry three passengers.

Minister for Transport Ramakant Goswami said the new autorickshaws will be safe and secure and would go a long way in bringing down road accidents. "The introduction of four-wheeler autos would also bring discipline among the auto drivers. The incidents of overcharging and not using meters, refusing to take passengers up to their destinations, etc., would be minimized with the introduction of such autos," he said.

Goswami said that the department has asked to submit the report within two weeks so that a final decision could be taken immediately.

On improving the efficiency of the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), Goswami said that the department will make all its new drivers to undergo a four-week intensive training programme on road safety and driving.

"The electronic speed governors are fitted in the buses. The other measures include, counselling on lane driving and driving with the prescribed speed limit, no overtaking of buses at queue shelters, making flying squads more effective and visible," he said.

Record property tax collection by SDMC
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, July 3
The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) today claimed to have collected an all-time high property tax of Rs 310 crore during the first quarter of financial year 2013-14.

This comprises an off-line collection of Rs 197.33 crore and on-line Rs 112.57 crore. However, the reported revenue collection for the corresponding period last year was Rs 143.52 crore. The corporation showed a revenue growth of Rs 167 crore which is 117 per cent in comparison to the last year's corresponding period growth.

"In the first quarter of 2012-13, the total collection of the three corporations was Rs 290 crore. Thus, this year, the SDMC has been able to surpass the total revenue of all the three corporations collected in the first quarter of financial year 2012-13," said B.N. Singh, Assessor and Collector of the civic agency.

Singh said this record collection is the base work done by the employees of the Property Tax Department of SDMC in the financial year 2012-13 which has resulted into greater awareness among the property tax payers.

"It is better compliance by tax payers due to which the collection has gone up substantially higher recording an all-time high. Another contributory factor is that at the policy level, the corporation has brought out changes, particularly in the rationalization of tax structure and reforms, which too have contributed to the growth," he said.

He said that the annual target of Property Tax Department, SDMC for the current year is Rs 702 crore. With this achievement, 44 per cent of the annual target has been realized in the first quarter itself.
