Severely jolted by rain, landslides and massive flooding of rivers, the Uttarakhand Government today banned all construction activity along river banks. Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna also announced the constitution of the Uttarakhand Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority.

3 Hizb militants, cop killed in Kashmir encounter

A member of the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the police was killed and two security personnel — a policeman and a CRPF jawan — were injured in an encounter with militants in the Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

India’s first navigation satellite put into orbit
Bangalore, July 1
India’s first dedicated navigational satellite IRNSS-1A was today successfully launched by a polar satellite launch vehicle (PSLV-C22) from the first launch pad of the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota near Chennai.

The National Capital Region (NCR) will now cover 13 districts of Haryana with the National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB) today approving the inclusion of Bhiwani, Mahendragarh, Jind and Karnal districts, besides Bharatpur district of Rajasthan.

Ishrat case: CBI unlikely to indict Modi, Amit Shah

The Central Bureau of Investigation is unlikely to name Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and his close associate Amit Shah as accused in its charge-sheet in the Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case. Sources say the investigation agency may also drop CBI director Rajendra Kumar from the list of accused.
