Barnala MC chief among six booked for attack on worker
Barnala, June 28 
The local police today registered a case against the president of the Municipal Council (MC), Barnala, Paramjit Singh Dhillon, his son Binni Dhillon and four unidentified persons in connection with an attack on a safai contractor of the MC, Malkit Singh, a couple of days ago.

The Muktsar police has booked the son of a former sarpanch of Mangat Ker village for allegedly making threatening phone calls and seeking undue favour from an election returning officer (RO) by posing as a personal assistant to the Home Secretary. In his complaint to the police, the returning officer, Kiranjit Singh, who is a senior executive engineer in the PSPCL, Muktsar, alleged, "I got calls from two unknown on Wednesday. 

One killed, 6 hurt in mishap on Abohar-Sriganganagar road
Abohar, June 28
Krishan Lal, a resident of Khippanwali village and a bank employee, was killed and six others were injured in a multiple collision on the Abohar-Sriganganagar road today.

  Barnala MC chief among six booked for attack on worker

Barnala, June 28
The local police today registered a case against the president of the Municipal Council (MC), Barnala, Paramjit Singh Dhillon, his son Binni Dhillon and four unidentified persons in connection with an attack on a safai contractor of the MC, Malkit Singh, a couple of days ago.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Swaran Singh Khanna said the case had been registered under Sections 341, 323, 148, 149 and 120-B of the IPC, Section 25 of the Arms Act and Sections 3, 4 of the SC, ST Act on the statement of Malkit Singh, who was now under treatment at the DMC Hospital, Ludhiana.

The DSP said the name of the president of the council had been included in the case under Section 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC. However, no one could be arrested in this case so far.

On June 26, some persons had reportedly attacked Malkit Singh near the MC office. Malkit was admitted to the Civil Hospital, Barnala, with serious injuries. He was referred to the DMCH. — TNS

Muktsar, June 28
The Muktsar police has booked the son of a former sarpanch of Mangat Ker village for allegedly making threatening phone calls and seeking undue favour from an election returning officer (RO) by posing as a personal assistant to the Home Secretary.

In his complaint to the police, the returning officer, Kiranjit Singh, who is a senior executive engineer in the PSPCL, Muktsar, alleged, "I got calls from two unknown on Wednesday. The caller sought an undue favour related to the elections of Mangat Ker village panchayat. When I refused, he threatened me with dire consequences."

The Station House Officer of the City Muktsar police station, Deepak Rai, said, "The RO informed his seniors, who found that the numbers were not linked to the Home Secretary. Both the numbers were found to be used by one Jaspal Singh, son of Mohinder Singh, a former sarpanch of Mangat Ker village."

Muktsar Sub-divisional Magistrate VPS Bajwa said, "We confirmed from the office of the Home Secretary if any phone call was made on the RO's phone. When they declined, we initiated a legal action against the fraudster."

A case under various sections of the IPC has been registered against Jaspal Singh, who is evading arrest.

  One killed, 6 hurt in mishap on Abohar-Sriganganagar road

Abohar, June 28
Krishan Lal, a resident of Khippanwali village and a bank employee, was killed and six others were injured in a multiple collision on the Abohar-Sriganganagar road today.

Amritpal of Kotkapura, along his companions Titu and Bittu, was going to Sriganganagar in a Verna car. To avert hitting a cyclist, the driver diverted the car to the right side of the road near Gidderanwali village but the car collided with Bolero vehicle and a motorcyclist, too, got trapped in the multiple collisions. Motorcylist Krishan Lal was killed while his friend Daljit Singh of Shehtirwala village received injuries. All the three persons travelling in the Verna car and Deepak Upveja of Abohar, who was travelling by Bolero vehicle, also got injured in the accident. — OC
