Cong leader dies of heart attack: District Congress Committee vice-president Ishwar Chand Verma (58) died of heart attack on Friday. The body was cremated at Bhawanigarh. Verma is survived by his wife, a son and two daughters. Sangrur MP Vijay Inder Singla, Chief Parliamentary Secretary Parkash Chand Garg, former Sangrur MLA Surinder Pal Sibia and District Congress Committee president Subhash Grover were also present. 

5-year-old raped; accused held: A five-year-old girl was raped allegedly by a 17-year-old boy in Beer Ahmedabad village (near Amargarh). The rape victim was medically examined at the Civil Hospital. The police said the accused had been arrested. 

Six quintals of poppy husk seized: The police has arrested a truck driver after recovering six quintals of poppy husk from his vehicle. Senior Superintendent of Police Mandip Sidhu said the accused, Satnam Singh of Hoshiarpur , was arrested near Mehlan village.
