The authorities have failed to recover the penalty of Rs 12.76 lakh from 158 PIOs since the commission became functional in 2006. This has been revealed in information collected by a local RTI activist Subhash from the office of the Chief Information Commissioner. He said while a penalty of Rs 31.79 lakh was imposed on 434 SPIOs till February 28 this year, 158 SPIOs paid no heed to the SIC orders and did not deposit the penalty despite reminders by the commission. This had resulted in the pending penalty amount that rose to Rs 12.76 lakh till February 28 last.
