Kidney racket
Gang duped seven patients
Ludhiana, June 15
Two days after the arrest of a resident of Assam and busting of a gang of swindlers who duped patients on the pretext of arranging kidney donors for them, it has come to light that complainant Gurjeet Kaur of Shimlapuri was not the only one who has been cheated by the gang.

Ferozepur Road parking zones to be auctioned
Ludhiana, June 15
The Ludhiana Municipal Corporation will auction the parking zones on Ferozepur Road on June 26. The terms and conditions of this auction, including the reserve price, would be uploaded on the MC website on June 20. A total of 28 such zones have been identified along Ferozepur Road.

A tree fell on a parked car at Daresi in Ludhiana on Saturday. Rain hits city life again
Ludhiana, June 15
Residents once again remained at the receiving end of the fury of the rain as the city again experienced heavy rain today. Two women suffered minor injuries when a tree fell on a car in the Daresi area in the afternoon. Several roads as well as low-lying areas were waterlogged. The monsoon is yet to arrive ‘formally’ but the residents have started bearing the brunt of the rainy season.

MC orders probe into road cave-in

After a large portion of the road opposite Dhami Eye Hospital in the Kitchlu Nagar area caved in on Thursday, the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation has ordered an inquiry into the cave-in. The practice of telecom companies illegally laying cables beneath different roads in the city has been going on for a long time.

Petrol price increased by Rs 2
Ludhiana, June 15
The price of petrol has again been hiked by Rs 2 per litre. It is the second increase in the price of petrol this month. The increase is due to the weakening of rupee against US dollar. The hike is effective from midnight, and is excluding local sales tax or VAT. The current petrol price in Punjab is Rs 70.71 per litre and after the hike it will be Rs 72.71 per litre. — TNS

ITI staff association lists demands at state meeting
Ludhiana, June 15
A state-level meeting of the ITI Employees Association was held today to discuss their long pending demands. Speaking on the occasion, Sarbhjeet Sing, general secretary, said pay scale anomalies present among teachers should be corrected as it creates a feeling of complex among those who are not getting pay according to their qualification. During the meeting it was discussed that on the lines of teachers working in polytechnics pay scales of the ITI teachers should be revised from September 4, 2014.

Health team visits risk-prone areas
Ludhiana, June 15
Following the instructions of the Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner Rahul Tiwari and Civil Surgeon, Ludhiana, Dr Subhash Batta, a team of the health department today visited high-risk areas of the city from where the maximum cases of water and vector-borne diseases are reported.

Transfer of specialists leaves doctors, patients anxious
Ludhiana, June 15
Recent transfers of health specialists by the State Health Department has left doctors and patients anxious. As many as 523 specialists were transferred all over the state out of which the transfers of 62 have also been cancelled.

BJP slams police for booking councillor

A day after the city police booked Renu Sharma, councillor, from ward No 29 and her husband, Rajesh Sharma, for submitting fake documents before the Returning Officer during the Municipal Corporation elections, the BJP leader today came down hard on the police for unnecessarily poking its nose into the matter.

Casting of vote through postal ballots begins
Ludhiana, June 15
For electing one member of the Dental Council of India (DCI), the process of voting through postal ballot papers has started in the state. The result of this voting will be declared on July 6. There are about 8,000 registered dentists, who will cast their vote through postal ballot papers which they will send through registered posts at Punjab Dental Council (PDC).

Gas agency fined Rs 10,000

District Consumer Complaint Redressal Forum, Fatehgarh Sahib, has fined a gas agency of Morinda of Rs 10,000 on a complaint of a resident of Bhamian village .

Man booked for murder
Ludhiana, June 15
A day after The Tribune reported the matter of the death of a youth under mysterious circumstances, the city police has booked a man in whose house the body of the deceased was found. The accused has been identified as Parminder Singh, a resident of Vishkarma Colony, Dholewal.

Five thieves held with 30 mobile phones
Khanna, June 15
The Khanna Sadar police has recovered about 30 mobile phones from an inter-district gang of mobile thieves and arrested five gang members in this regard. The market value of the recovered mobiles is Rs 40,000.

Man dies
Ludhiana, June 15
A 30-year-old man died after consuming some poisonous substance at his house in Dairy Complex near Haibowal here today. The deceased has been identified as Rinku. The incident took place this evening. — TNS
