Batala
Newborn female twins found dead:
Newborn female twins were found dead near the main road at Rangar Nangal village on Tuesday. Batala SSP Tulsi Ram said Gurpreet Singh,a resident of the village, noticed a polythene bag covered with blood stains lying in the bushes near the village drain. On a search, he found the dead infants inside the bag, he said, adding a case under Section 318 of the IPC had been registered.

PSPCL JEs' strike from June 18
: Perturbed at the indifferent attitude of the management of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) towards their long-pending demands, the Council of Junior Engineers PSEB has threatened to go on a two-day token strike on June 18 and 19. Council president RK Choudhary and general secretary Davinder Singh said: "Various issues including the revision of pay structure, filling the vacant posts of additional assistant engineers through promotion and restoration of eligibility of serving JEs for direct recruitment to the post of assistant engineer are not being addressed by the management".

Sanjha Morcha holds dharna
: Activists of political parties, under the banner of the Sanjha Morcha, held a dharna in front of the Pojewal police station on Tuesday to protest against the failure of the police to arrest those responsible for the suicide by the Chhuchhewal sarpanch. Former MLAs Ram Kishan Kataria, Shingara Ram Sahungra, district Congress president Satvir Singh Palli Jhikki, Rajwinder Singh Lucky, Ashok Nanowal, Bimal Kumar, Darshan Singh Mattoo, Mahan Singh Rouri addressed the dharna. They threatened to intensify the stir if the police failed to nab the suspects by June 15.

Two IPS officers shifted:
The Punjab Government on Tuesday transferred Ishwar Singh, Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana, as Inspector-General of Police, Zone-1 Patiala. Paramjit Singh Gill, Inspector-General of Police, Zone-1, Patiala, takes his place in Ludhiana.

Phagwara
Four killed in road accidents:
Two youths were killed while other injured in a collision between two motorcycles near Khurampur village on the Phagwara-Hoshiarpur Road on Monday. The victims have been identified as Deepak Kumar of Mansa Devi Nagar, Hadiabad, and Sidharth of Model Town. In another road mishap, Kimti Lal and Gurmail Singh were killed and two children injured when a Swift car hit a cycle and dashed against a tree near Bhularai chowk on Tuesday. Kimti Lal allegedly lost control of the car while trying to save a cyclist and hit it against a tree.

Samrala
1 held with 2 kg of opium:
The Samrala Police has arrested one person and recovered 2 kg of opium from his possession. "The accused has been identified as Harinder Singh, a resident of Madhya Pardesh. A case has been registered against him. The cost of the recovered contraband is said to be around Rs 1.5 lakh," said the SHO.

Three arrested:
The police has arrested three persons under the Excise Act. Moti Ram of Vashishth Colony has been arrested and 4 bottles of liquor have been seized. In another case, two persons have been held with 9 bottles of liquor.
