‘Killer’ cop, lover nabbed in Delhi

Sonepat, June 9
The Sonepat police has arrested suspended constable of the Chandigarh Police Basant Singh who allegedly killed Inspector Sucha Singh and critically injured his driver Jatinder in Chandigarh yesterday.

Sucha Singh was posted in the traffic wing of the Chandigarh Police. He was stabbed to death while Jatinder was critically injured when they questioned Basant and Sarita about their movement around the Sector 17 police station in Chandigarh in the wee hours yesterday.

Basant is also accused of killing his lover’s husband (Sandeep) and mother-in-law (Roshni) at Deepalpur village in Sonepat district on April 18.

Rohtak range Inspector General of Police Anil Rao said two police teams led by Inspector Sultan Singh and Sub-Inspector Ravinder raided a hotel in the Paharganj area of Delhi in the night and arrested Basant along with his paramour, Sarita.

Both of them were produced in a court today that remanded them in police custody. The Chandigarh Police and the Sonepat police had announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh each for providing information about Basant. Sarita was married to Sandeep on April 15. Basant allegedly killed Sandeep and his mother Roshni at their house on April 18 and escaped with Sarita thereafter. Both Basant and Sarita belonged to Gorar village in the district.
