Cycle industry rides high on high-end bikes

In the age of luxury cars and super mobikes, the good old bicycle is still moving ahead. When major auto players seem out of breath, the bicycle industry is paddling ahead at full stream, thanks to the high-end fancy segment that has grown by almost 50 per cent in a year.

A busy day for fire officials in city

It was a busy day for the fire brigade today as four incidents were reported in different parts of the city. Short circuit is said to be the reason behind all four incidents.

Illegal commercial activity rampant in the residential area of Model Town has been posing problems to residents of the area. Apart from two roads, all roads in Model Town have been declared as ‘residential’ in the master plan and still the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation officials have not bothered to take note of the commercial activity that is going on right under their nose and prefer to look the other way.

Ludhiana: A three-day story telling with dramatic effects, workshop was organised for the staff and students of Chanda Mama School. Teachers tried to create virtual reality by using puppets, masks, battery operated toys, musical instruments and live models with the result that the students were totally involved with the exercise.

An ice-cream parlour owner booked for causing traffic obstructions at the busy Dandi Swami road. The accused has been identified as Sumit, a resident of Civil City, Chander Nagar. The police said, Sumit Kumar, owner of Natural Soup and Sales, had put up a make-shift kiosk on the road causing traffic obstruction.

Taxi driver booked for stealing gold

A taxi driver has been booked for stealing 22 told of gold jewellery. The accused identified as Jatinder Kumar was booked on the complaint of Prem Chand of Janakpuri in New Delhi. Prem Chand said that he along with his wife visited Sunder Nagar on Jatinder Singh's taxi.
Six injured in head-on collision
Doraha, May 29
Two cars collided head on the Southern bypass today afternoon. All the six occupants of both the cars were injured. One of the cars caught fire after which fire brigade had to be called. The injured were rushed to a local hospital.
Two booked for murder
Amloh, May 29
Pritam Singh (55), a resident of Manngarh village, was allegedly murdered at a tube well here yesterday. Pritam’s son, Devinder Singh, alleged that his father went to the tube well yesterday to water the fields.
