Vendor’s son tops St John’s School

Every evening Vikas Jain spends six or seven hours selling garments and other small items for children in front of a vegetable market at Mauli Jagran. This proved no deterrent for him to excel in his studies. Vikas, an EWS student, topped the first batch of class XII of St John's High School by securing 94.4 per cent marks in the commerce stream.
They took disability, illness as challenge to do better

Chronic illness and disability could not deter the spirit and grit of these three students. Braving all odds, Tanisha Gupta, who is orthopaedically impaired, scored 92.2 per cent in the arts stream. Tanisha, who has a medical problem in her left leg, said she did not let her physical disability overpower her rather took it as a challenge to do better.
Behlana govt school scores 100% result

After a long wait of two years, a government school in Chandigarh has produced a 100 per cent result in the Class XII examination. Since 2011, none of the 22 Government Model Senior Secondary Schools and 15 non-model schools had got 100 per cent pass result. Surprisingly, this year, a non-model school, Government Senior Secondary, Behlana, broke the jinx for the UT Education Department by achieving a 100 per cent result.
Tricity topper again from Panchkula

Panchkula has done it again. The topper in the CBSE Class XII results is also from the town. In the ICSE Class X results, Rajat Bir Singh Bajwa from Little Flower Convent School, Sector 14, Panchkula, had emerged the topper in the tricity, securing 96.8 per cent marks.
Top positions elude Mohali town

Once again, no student from Mohali has figured on the list of the tricity toppers in the CBSE Class XII results. In comparison to Chandigarh and Panchkula, the students of the town have performed poorly as far as securing the highest marks in any of the four streams in the tricity is concerned.
Navneet tops Mohali dist in commerce

Today, the joy of Bhupinder Singh, an air-conditioner mechanic, knew no bounds when his daughter, Navneet Kaur Sohanpal, topped Mohali district with 95.8 per cent in the commerce stream of Class XII.
Gurleen tops in medical stream

Gurleen Kaur, a student of International Public School, Kurali, bagged top slot in Mohali district by scoring 96 per cent marks in the medical stream.
Gurleen said it was her hard work and support of parents and teachers that enabled her to touch the heights of success.
EWS students defy odds
Chandigarh, May 27
Ten economically weaker section (EWS) children of Theatre Age, Chandigarh, have cleared the Class XII board exam in different streams. As many as eight students scored between 50 per cent and 60 per cent marks in the non-medical stream. Vicky, a resident of Sector 24, secured 60 per cent followed by Rajat who scored around 55 per cent marks. Among other students, Rahul scored 59 per cent, Manish 53 per cent, Raju 50 per cent, Arvind 58 per cent and Imran Khan scored 56 per cent marks.

Patil pulls up UT officials

UT Administrator Shivraj V Patil today pulled up officials of the UT Administration for ‘short-sightedness’ in chalking out the policy for upgrading schools and its infrastructure in the city. During the inauguration of the newly constructed Government High School in Sector 54, he asked as to why the Education Department had not introduced 100 per cent smart class rooms to overcome shortage of teachers in the schools till date.

The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) today issued a notice to Haryana Director General of Police (DGP) after the authorities at the Haryana Police Academy, Madhuban, Karnal, in an ongoing petition expressed their helplessness to incorporate 11 UT police female constables for a training course, despite CAT directions.

10% fee hike mooted in all courses

The committee formed by Panjab University to review the fee structure of courses in the university has recommended a 10 per cent fee hike in all courses. The recommendation made by the committee will be tabled before the Syndicate for the final approval.
