The day after a pregnant woman and her two-year-old son were killed after the roof of a house collapsed at Model Colony, Jagarpur, the police today booked the neighbour, Sabir, on charge of causing unpremeditated death.

‘Sachin might have been killed for money’

The day after the city police booked four of a family for murdering and dumping 18-year-old Shachin’s body in a storeroom of their house in Basant Avenue, Dugri, the police today did not rule out that the victim might have been kidnapped and killed for ransom.

Schools not complying with norms will be shut: Edu board chief

"Schools that do not comply with the norms laid down by the board will be closed down," said Tejinder Kaur Dhaliwal, Chairperson, PSEB, "It is difficult to even locate the addresses of some of the schools. Such schools do not confirm to any of the norms and will be shut down," she added.

Zila parishad polls
Instructions on code of conduct issued

For ensuring free, fair and peaceful panchayat samiti and zila parishads elections in the state, the State Election Commissioner, Punjab, has asked to political parties, contesting candidates, ministers, employees of the state government, local bodies and other public servants connected with local body elections, to religiously follow the code of conduct.

e-filing of excise duty to be made compulsory

The Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) is considering making electronic filing of excise duty payment mandatory. The system is being upgraded to take the load of e-filing and an announcement in this regard is likely to be made soon.
