Youth found dead, irate mob torches two buses near Ambala
Manish Sirhindi/TNS

Shahzadpur (Ambala), May 6
Protesting police inaction in tracing a missing local youth, an irate mob set two Haryana Roadways buses on fire here on Monday and laid siege to the national highway after his body was found in the fields with his head nearly severed from the neck.

Jaswinder Singh of Berpura village, an accountant at a brick kiln near his village, went missing on Sunday night. He was last seen leaving the kiln around 8 pm. His family members went to the local police station to complain, but officials on duty turned them away saying Sunday was their day off.

The family and some villagers launched a search and found Jaswinder’s bike parked near a field in Sontali village, around 30 km from the district headquarters, on Monday morning. At a little distance lay his body in a pool of blood, his throat badly slit and his head almost severed from the body. The enraged family, accompanied by hundreds of villagers, blocked National Highway 72 and 73, raised slogans against the authorities, and went on a rampage.

Two Haryana Roadways buses of the Naraingarh depot approaching Ambala tried to manoeuvre their way through the blockade and were set ablaze. The handful of policemen present on the scene scurried for cover and sent for enforcements, which reached there from nearby police stations. A team of senior police as well as civil administration officials also rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the agitators. The blockade was lifted only after the arrest of four of the seven persons accused of murdering Jaswinder.
