Petrol price cut by Rs 3 per litre

Much to the relief of city residents, petrol price was today slashed by Rs 3 per
litre, the steepest reduction in rates in over five years.

ADC (D) does tough talking
Ludhiana, April 30
The Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development), Rishipal Singh, has asked the members of a committee, which includes teachers, health officials, etc, to be present at the time of the preparation of mid-day meal at at Sherpur or action will be taken against them. Chairing a meeting of teachers at the Bachat Bhawan today, Rishipal also asked the District Health Officer to visit schools and check mid-day meals being served to students.

Electronic goods destroyed in fire at Mata Rani Chowk
Ludhiana, April 30
Electronic goods, including mobile phones were damaged in a fire, which broke out at a shop near Mata Rani Chowk here this morning. It took a fire engine one hour to douse the fire. The shop was closed when the fire broke out.

DTO sends list of 64 school buses to police
Ludhiana, April 30
A list of around 64 school buses/vans, which were inspected outside Sacred Heart School, BRS Nagar and found without proper documents, was sent to Commissioner Police Ishwar Singh by District Transport Officer Anil Garg today. Many of the vehicles were found to be very old while others were brought from other states. Many vehicles were being plied without documents and a majority of them were overloaded with students.

A 25-year-old woman is battling for life after her husband, along with her in-laws, allegedly made her to take phenyl. The woman, who has been identified as Daljit
Kaur, wife of Ajay Kumar of Shahi Mohalla, was rushed to a hospital in the Daresi area. She was reported to be serious.

Khanna is Tax Bar president
Ludhiana, April 30
Balbir Khanna has been elected president of the Taxation Bar Association. Khanna polled 162 votes while his opponent OP Bhardwaj polled 68 votes. The other office-bearers of the association were elected unanimously. They include Jatinder Kumar Khurana, general secretary (2013-15); Ravinder Garg, vice-president; Harminderjit Singh, finance secretary; Shaveta Vohra, joint secretary; and Vishal Sharma, secretary.
Food festival at vet varsity from May 3
Ludhiana, April 30
Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) will organise a food festival on May 3. The event aims at popularising various value-added meat and milk products developed by the university. Dr VK Taneja, Vice-Chancellor of the university, said animal protein played an important role in human nutrition. These products are more health oriented and hence fetch higher market price and additional income.

Driver loses control over truck; 2 killed
Ludhiana, April 30
Two persons were crushed to death while as many were injured after the driver lost control over a truck and ran over cyclists at the Gyaspura Chowk near here late this evening.

Missing boy traced
Ludhiana: An eight-year-old child, had gone missing in the morning, was traced by the PCR staff to a rail track in the Bahadurke area. The boy, identified as Sunil
Kuma, son of Charanjit Singh of Bharti Colony, near the Bahadurke area, strayed at 8am. The police was informed about the missing boy and it was at around 2pm that the policemen, identified as Shiv Kumar and Baljinder Singh, spotted Sunil sitting on a rail track. According to the policemen, the child was hungry. Sunil was offered fruits and water and taken home by the policemen.
Two awarded 7-year jail in rape case

Additional Sessions Judge Surinder Pal Kaur has convicted Love Kumar (24) of Shanti Nagar, Focal Point, and Raju (26) of Mahadev Nagar, Ludhiana, for kidnapping and raping a married woman.
