In a major goof-up by Panjab University (PU), the mathematics question paper for BA and BSc second-year students of all PU-affiliated colleges held on April 17 in various examination centres in Chandigarh and Punjab turned out to be exactly the same that was attempted by the mathematics students last year.

Sonepat murders: 3 city cops suspended

Basant Singh, accused cop A day after a UT constable murdered his girlfriend's husband, who had got married five days ago, and her mother-in-law by firing indiscriminately at them in Sonepat, senior police officials today suspended three policemen for their negligence in issuing a self-loading rifle (SLR) to the accused constable, who was under suspension for remaining absent from duty.

In the challan filed against Doon MLA Ram Kumar Chaudhary in the Jyoti murder case, the deceased’s sister, Ishu, finds no mention. Ironically, one of the most crucial evidence in the case was Chaudhary’s photograph at Ishu’s wedding, which proved his connection with the deceased.

Artistes stage a Bharatnatyam dance at the Punjab Kala Bhawan in Chandigarh on Friday The evening at the Punjab Kala Bhawan witnessed a fine Bharatnatyam performance by artists Shaswati Mandal Paul, Neha Bhatnagar and Sahana Balasubramanyam. In the first performance, Shaswati Mandal Paul, an artist with All India Radio and Doordarshan, recited aalap of puriya- dhanashree. She also presented tappa and concluded with bandish Chhando Chhanda.

Five held for illegal sand mining

The police has arrested five persons and impounded five sand-laden trucks for illegal sand mining. The police sources said that a case has been registered following the complaint of mining officer, Surinder Singh.

PU changes exam date

The Panjab University (PU) authorities have changed the date of the Law entrance exam, which is clashing with the entrance test to be conducted by Delhi University (DU). The entrance test, which was earlier scheduled for June 9, has been re-scheduled for June 23.

Girl student honoured
Mohali: Ashima, a class X student of Gian Jyoti School, Phase II, Mohali, was awarded with a cash prize of Rs 200 for attaining fourth position in the Pre-Senior General Knowledge Supplementary Test Certificate conducted by the All-India Board of General Knowledge Test, a wing of the United Schools Organisation of India and registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860. She secured 90 per cent marks in the test. She was honoured with a participation certificate along with a special certificate. — TNS

Burglars strike at jeweller’s house in Sector 56

It took a gang of five to six burglars just 10 minutes to carry out a broad-daylight theft at a house in Sector 56 here today. The thieves, according to the police, ransacked the house and loaded the stolen furniture and other items on to a mini-truck within a span of 10 minutes.

24-yr-old woman booked for throwing acid on in-laws

A domestic dispute went awry when a 24-year-old woman threw acid on her mother-in-law and sister-in-law following an argument at her Sector 25 residence this evening.

Three thieves held with stolen items

The UT police today arrested a thief who was returning after committing a theft at a house in Sector 15. The accused has been identified as Rajat Dahiya, a resident of Sector 22. The police conducted a search of the accused and recovered stolen items from his possession.
