Teachers protest manhandling at SRCC
New Delhi, April 9 Reacting to recent media reports on the incident, the university registrar also issued a note from the co-convener of the function. "Dr R.K.Singh (co-convener) has deeply regretted the undignified conduct of Mr Bohidar and clarified that this pre-planned attempt to disrupt the VC's inaugural address was thwarted by the teachers of the college and not by any security staff," the registrar said. While the professor in question, Sanjaya Kumar Bohidar, strongly reacted to the university explanation. The professor said, "This belated attempt at image salvation by the university shows the mindset of the administration. The registrar's statement admits indirectly at least that the VC was unperturbed by the manhandling of a teacher in front of his eyes." Singh also alleged that Bohidar had tried to disrupt Union Minister M.M. Pallam Raju's visit earlier and had planned to disrupt the VC's conference. However, Bohidar said, "I had not opposed Raju's visit in any manner but had taken the opportunity to accompany the president of my college staff association to submit a note on the 4-yr UG degree. The letter accompanying the note welcomes Raju's visit," Meanwhile, the SRCC staff association called upon teachers to join the protest. A petition to the Prime Minister, seeking the VC's removal for his involvement in the incident was signed by all those present. |
