Panchkula, April 5
Jyoti came in the way of Doon MLA Ram Kumar Chaudhary’s political aspirations, and that is why he eliminated her. This is what the 1,500-page charge-sheet filed by the Panchkula police says.

Jyoti, 24, was found murdered in Sector 21, Panchkula. She belonged to Hoshiarpur and lived as a paying guest in Chandigarh. Chaudhary, his nephews Gurmeet and Dharampal, Paramjit and a truck driver were arrested after the incident. The investigations revealed that the girl was strangulated and then run over by a truck to make it look like an accident.

The chargesheet, filed by the Panchkula police, a copy of which is with The Tribune, mentions the statements of Doon MLA Ram Kumar Chaudhary who “confessed” as to how his love story with Jyoti turned bloody after the victim got pregnant. She had threatened Chaudhary to ruin his reputation and political career if he did not continue the relationship with her.

The love story started in June 2010 with a phone call made by Jyoti who, as an insurance agent, called up Ram and asked if he wanted to get his insurance done. “She was pressing me for insurance. She even asked me to meet her once. I first met her in August near Fun Republic mall. I did not get insurance done but I gave Rs 7,000 to help her and then we started meeting each other quite often,” said the chargesheet quoting the MLA.

“We developed physical relations and whenever I used to come to Chandigarh, I would meet Jyoti in my car after parking it an isolated place. In January 2011, I even attended Jyoti’s sister Ishu’s wedding with Rajender alias Pappy at Hoshiarpur but I was unaware what Jyoti told her family about me”, said the MLA as per the chargesheet.

According to the charge-sheet, Chaudhary’s developed intimate relations with Jyoti. “Physical relations between me and Jyoti deepened and in July 2012, she told me that she was three-week pregnant. During that time, she even got to know everything about me and my family. I got scared, and that was the time when I was gearing up to contest the MLA elections from the Doon constituency. On August 7, I took Jyoti to IVF hospital sector 20D Chandigarh for an abortion,” said the charge-sheet.

Chaudhary narrated the entire story to his nephew Dharampal and friend Paramjit where it was decided that after elections, they would eliminate Jyoti.
