Anna Hazare draws thin crowd in Barnala
Barnala, April 3 In his address, Anna Hazare said the Jantantra Morcha's main motive was to struggle for the welfare of the nation and the society's welfare. He said no party was clean. Besides, the parties lack spirit of service and sacrifice as their motive was "power for money and money for power". "This is the reason why we did not support any political party," he added. Anna said the country did not have a true Republic system as the masters (people) were now servants while the servants (representatives) of the people were now their masters. Former Army chief General VK Singh (retd) said, "Our own people were cheating and betraying the nation. But for the Jantantra Morcha, the nation was supreme. With this ideology, the front was spreading awareness among the masses to fight corruption." Maulana Sufi Gilani, a core committee member of Anna's team, and a journalist Santosh Bharati appealed to the gathering to strengthen Anna's movement to make the country corruption-free. |

Rights’ activists dejected as Anna gives Muktsar a miss
Muktsar, April 3 “Though Anna Hazare along with his team visited the nearby districts of Ferozepur, Faridkot and Bathinda and a number of small towns, the residents of Muktsar failed to get a chance to meet and share their viewpoints with such a great personality who had been motivating public to rise against corruption and making them aware about the Jan Lokpal Bill,” said Sudarshan Sidana, secretary, Senior Citizens Council. Sham Lal Goyal, president, National Consumer Awareness Group, who is known as local Anna Hazare for spearheading a number of movements against corruption in the society, said, “Muktsar has a rich religious importance. Anna and his team should have come here to make people aware about their rights and encourage them to stand against corruption in the system.” “I think Muktsar residents missed a chance to meet a great personality, who dedicated his to highlight issues concerning common people,” he added. Another social activist, Raman Kumar, said, “With Anna skipping Muktsar, the residents of this historic town missed a lifetime opportunity, which otherwise could have transformed many lives.” |

Punjab moves proposal to get damaged gates of Harike headworks repaired
Abohar, April 3 The Irrigation officials in neighbouring Sriganganagar confirmed on Wednesday that a letter from the Executive Engineer (XEN), Harike Division, Balwinder Singh, has been received. Abohar Irrigation circle sub-divisional engineer Mukhtiar Singh Rana said the local Municipal Council, the Public Health Department and village panchayats have been advised to fill all the water reservoir to their respective capacity before the coming Sunday as rise in temperature during the fortnight-long closure might result in increase in demand for drinking water. All the ponds also need to be filled for the convenience of cattle.
Kisan Sangharsh Samiti spokesman Subhash Sehgal has urged the officials in Punjab and Rajasthan to take effective measures to check leakage of water in the Gang canal near village Khuikhera on the Abohar-Fazilka road as it had resulted in revival of water-logging in the adjoining villages. |
