Quiz winner honoured:
Archi Doda who secured fourth position in the national Britannia quiz contest was honoured at LRS DAV Senior Secondary School here today. The organisers also honoured engineer SK Jhamb.

Woman suffers  90 per cent burns: A resident of Dangarkhera village, Beant Kaur, sustained 90 per cent burns when she was cooking food in her kitchen here today. Her husband Baaj Singh had gone to fields when the incident took place, sources said. Some neighbours admitted her to the Civil Hospital where doctors described her condition critical.

Vibhor tops JEE mock test: Vibhor Kapur, Sahil Arora and Vinay Jyani secured top positions in JEE 2013 Mock Test, which was organised by Radiant Institute of Engineering. Chairman of the institute Tara Singh Ahuja distributed prizes among the winners. He said 500 students from Abohar, Fazilka, Malout and Sriganganagar took the test. Homoeopathic Medical College principal Dr Rajinder Girdhar also addressed the participants.

Two Inspectors held accepting bribe:
The Vigilance Bureau on Tuesday nabbed two Inspectors posted at Punjab Roadways depot, Muktsar, while allegedly accepting a bribe from a conductor. Suresh Arora, Chief Director-cum-DGP, Vigilance Bureau, said Gurdip Singh and Jaswant Singh, both Inspectors, had been arrested.

Three held for drug trafficking:
The district police today claimed to have caught three narcotics smugglers from separate places.A spokesperson of the police said the Kabarwala police yesterday intercepted a Hyundai Elantra and recovered nearly 2.5 kg of opium from its occupant, identified as Ajaypal Singh of Malout. Similarly, the Lakhewali police arrested a pedestrian near Madrasa village and recovered 6,360 pills of habit-forming drugs from him. Meanwhile, Sangeeta Rani of Bahadurkhera village was yesterday nabbed by the Gidderbaha police for allegedly smuggling 7kg of poppy husk.Separate cases have been registered against them.

Varsity employee killed for property:
A Punjabi University employee, Jasjeet Singh Lali, was allegedly shot dead by a relative over a property dispute. The police stated that the victim had a dispute over a piece of land in village Jogipur. The incident took place while the victim was trying to take possession of a motor room on the disputed land, which was objected to by his relative who later allegedly shot him dead. A case has been registered.

Sangrur
Road accident claims two lives:
Two youths were killed when the motorcycle they were riding on rammed into a stationary truck at Gurne Kalan village on the Lehra Jakhal road on Monday night. They were going to Lehragaga from Chottian village. Chowki in charge Harmeet Singh said Soni Singh (21) and Avtar Singh (21) were killed in the mishap.

Motorbikes torched:
Two motorcycles were torched by some unknown miscreants late last night in Bhagwan Mohala here. A case under Section 436 of the IPC has been registered on the complaint of Farman Chand Malhotra, the owner of one of the bikes. However, no arrests have been made so far.
