e-data shows Kanda’s culpability: Police

Prosecution’s submission
Hard disks and e-mails show that the duo (Kanda and his aide Aruna Chaddha) abetted Geetika’s suicide
Kanda roped in another accused, who created a fake e-mail ID and sent forged e-mail to Geetika about the alleged extradition proceedings against her in Dubai
The electronic data and other evidence make out a case of abetment to suicide and criminal conspiracy

New Delhi, April 2
Delhi Police today told a court here that hard disks and other electronic data recovered from the office of former Haryana minister Gopal Kanda, an accused in the Geetika Sharma suicide case, show he was pressuring her to return to India from Dubai, one of the reasons that drove her to suicide.

In its arguments on framing of charges against Kanda and his aide Aruna Chaddha, the prosecution submitted before District Judge S K Sarvaria that the hard disks and e-mails recovered during the probe show that the duo abetted her suicide.

The prosecution pointed out Kanda's intention in giving Geetika a lucrative post without any qualification and then forcing her to come back to the MDLR when she joined Emirates
Airlines.

In its main and supplementary charge sheets also Delhi Police has said Kanda was obsessed with Geetika and wanted to bring her back in his company to sexually exploit her.

Additional Public Prosecutor Rajiv Mohan submitted that when Geetika, earlier an employee of Kanda's MDLR airlines, joined Emirates Airlines, Kanda sent them a complaint purportedly lodged with Gurgaon police against an alleged fraud committed by Geetika by creating fake experience certificates and also taking away the MDLR's documents and laptop.

He further submitted that Kanda roped in another accused, Chanshivroop, who created a fake e-mail ID and sent forged e-mail to Geetika about the alleged extradition proceedings against her in Dubai.

The prosecution said the electronic data and other evidence make out a case of abetment to suicide, criminal conspiracy, criminal intimidation, forgery of valuable security, forgery with intention to cheat and harm reputation, using forged documents as genuine and destruction of evidence under the IPC, under which the duo have been chargesheeted.

They have also been booked under Section 66 of the Information Technology Act which deals with computer hacking.

During the last hearing on March 30, prosecution had submitted that the suicide notes of Geetika and her mother should be considered as concrete evidence against the accused.

The court will hear further arguments on April 12.

Both Kanda and Chaddha, at present in jail, are accused of abetting Geetika's suicide. She was found dead at her Ashok Vihar residence in Delhi on August 5, last year.

In her suicide note, Geetika had said she was ending her life due to “harassment” by Kanda and Chaddha.

Geetika's mother Anuradha Sharma also committed suicide in February and left behind two notes in which she blamed the duo for driving her daughter to take the extreme step. — PTI
