Row over cremation of mishap victim: An alleged faux pass committed by the Civil Hospital authorities where they handed over the body of a 45-year-old man belonging to a minority community marking it "unidentified" to the Municipal Committee (MC) for cremation. The man, who was injured in an accident near Amipur village, succumbed to his injuries on Thursday. Deputy Commissioner Abhinav Trikha has marked a magisterial inquiry into the incident. The probe will be conducted by Gurdaspur SDM Tejinder Pal Singh and DSP (Detective). They will submit their report to the DC within a week.

PTU distance wing exams put off: Punjab Technical University has postponed its distance education examinations, which were scheduled to begin from Friday, following a stay order of the Tis Hazari Court, New Delhi, on Thursday. More than 1.5 lakh students were to appear for the examinations at distance education learning centres across the country. University official Rajneesh Sharma said the examinations had been postponed till further orders.
