23 school buses
challaned: Twentythree school buses were challaned during a special drive launched by the police and the district administration to check the violation of traffic rules. Six of the challaned buses were impounded for not possessing requisite documents.

Ceiling of new govt office caves in: A month after inauguration of the newly constructed Municipal Council complex, the ceiling of the office of the local municipal engineer caved in last night. Built at a cost of Rs 6 crore, the complex was inaugurated by Local Bodies Minister Chuni Lal Bhagat on February 1. Thereafter, the office of the council was shifted to this building located near the local Dhobi Ghat adjoining the Bhangi choe (seasonal rivulet).
Protest against
sexual assault: Activists of BSP (K), led by their president Madan Lal Bittu, got bazaars of Sham Chaurasi village shut down and later staged a dharna and blocked traffic to protest against the police for not arresting ex-serviceman Amrik Singh who allegedly molested a Class IV student. The blockade was lifted after Deputy Superintendent of Police HS Parmar assured action in the case.

Jalandhar tragedy: Truck driver sent to judicial remand: The driver of the truck that was involved in a collision with a school van that left 13 students dead was remanded in judicial custody by a local court on Thursday. Accused Jagjit Singh was held two days ago after being booked under Section 304 of the IPC.

Traders protest
demolition of shops: Officials of the local Municipal Corporation on Thursday demolished fruit shops that had come up in an illegal manner near Leela Bhawan Chowk in Patiala. After the demolition, the affected traders staged a protest and blocked traffic for about half an hour.
