23 school buses challaned:
Twentythree school buses were challaned during a special drive launched by the police and the district administration to check the violation of traffic rules. Six of the challaned buses were impounded for not possessing requisite documents.

Ceiling of new govt office caves in:
A month after inauguration of the newly constructed Municipal Council complex, the ceiling of the office of the local municipal engineer caved in last night. Built at a cost of Rs 6 crore, the complex was inaugurated by Local Bodies Minister Chuni Lal Bhagat on February 1. Thereafter, the office of the council was shifted to this building located near the local Dhobi Ghat adjoining the Bhangi choe (seasonal rivulet).

Protest against sexual assault: Activists of BSP (K), led by their president Madan Lal Bittu, got bazaars of Sham Chaurasi village shut down and later staged a dharna and blocked traffic to protest against the police for not arresting ex-serviceman Amrik Singh who allegedly molested a Class IV student. The blockade was lifted after Deputy Superintendent of Police HS Parmar assured action in the case.

Jalandhar tragedy: Truck driver sent to judicial remand:
The driver of the truck that was involved in a collision with a school van that left 13 students dead was remanded in judicial custody by a local court on Thursday. Accused Jagjit Singh was held two days ago after being booked under Section 304 of the IPC.

Officials of the local Municipal Corporation on Thursday demolished fruit shops that had come up in an illegal manner near Leela Bhawan Chowk in Patiala. After the demolition, the affected traders staged a protest and blocked traffic for about half an hour.

Junior golf camp from March 21: The CGA Golf Range is conducting a Junior Golf Camp from March 21 to 30. The trainees will be taught basics of the game and the camp will be in the morning from 10 am to 11.30 am every day. Mahesh Kumar a teaching professional will conduct the camp.

Medical boards for Amarnath pilgrims: The UT Administration has constituted boards in GMSH-16 and GMCH-32 for medical examination of pilgrims visiting Shri Amarnath shrine on all working days (Monday to Friday). Pilgrims may report between 9 am and 9.30 am with identity proof.

200 participate in annual sports day: The Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Landran, organised the 8th annual sports day function, at college grounds, here. Around 200 students pursuing Bed degree participated in the races 50m, 100m and 200m sprints, short put, javelin throw and three leg races. The winners of the event were awarded with prizes.

Coaching camp on March 17: The Livewire Coaching Centre will organise a free cricket coaching camp for the budding players of tricity, here. The trials will be conducted to select the players under the age group of 12-14 years on March 17 (8.30 am) at Divya Public School, Sector 44. NC legislator takes govt to task:
National Conference member Ajat Shatru Singh on Wednesday took the J-K government to task for its failure to protect the state. Speaking on the adjournment motion on Baramulla killing in the Legislative Council, he said: “If you are finding it difficult to handle Jammu and Kashmir, hand over the state to those who are the real owners of this state.” He was making an indirect reference to the Dogra rulers who had ruled the state till 1947.
